Fruits & Pitchers

A lively and brilliantly executed mid-century modernist style still life composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1953.
The scene features an assortment of objects including two pitchers, a plate of fruit, a bottle of wine, and some flowers, and a partial view of a chair in the background.
Drawing on a distinctly modernist ethos, the artist has masterfully reduced this scene down to blocks of contrasting colours, and explores the use of colour and brushstrokes to create a sense of depth as well as highlight the three-dimensional qualities of the objects.
Short and expressive brushstroke have been used, and the artist has thoughtfully selected a bold colour palette including rich green, orange and yellow tones, imbuing the work with an energising and uplifting feel.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary mint green wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has a small kink but this appears to be part of the quirkiness of the wood rather than a condition issue.
Size: 81 x 53 cm (including frame)
