The Blue Cloth
SOLD
A brilliantly executed mid-century modernist still life composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1956.
The painting features an assortment of objects including a vase of red flowers, a brown bottle, and some fruit thoughtfully laid across a table. In the background, we can see a striking blue fabric draping across.
Painted in a distinctly modernist ethos and with cubist elements at play, the artist skilfully uses flattened forms and blocks of contrasting colours to reconstruct this scene and to create depth and a sense of space, as well as to highlight the three-dimensionality of the objects.
A spectrum of rich colours as well as expressive brushstrokes have been used, contributing to the overall liveliness of this piece.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
Size: 37.5 x 48 cm (including frame)
