Ripe Pears
SOLD
A brilliantly executed and characterful mid-century still life oil composition and dated 1965 by the established Swedish artist Eric Cederberg (1897-1984), whose artworks have been represented in several public and museum collections across Sweden.
Cederberg is known for his exquisite still lifes of pears, which always capture the delightful quirkiness of this lovely fruit. He focuses on their forms, approaching the fruit and its surroundings with a modernist ethos.
Working with a rich and saturated colour palette, four bright and vivid pears appear illuminated against a backdrop filled with muted pastel shades. Expressive brushstrokes have been used, creating a textual quality that further enriches the visual experience of the piece.
Cederberg was a Swedish artist who made his debut on the art world in Helsingborg in 1922. Later he participated in the Skåne Art Association Exhibition in 1926 and the Swedish Public Art Society exhibition in Stockholm in 1941. He is represented in several public collections in Sweden.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary frame with an inner border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some small losses to its corners, however this does not detract from its overall attractiveness.
