A wonderfully expressive and brilliantly executed figurative composition in mixed media (oil, watercolour gouache), painted onto board.

Two women in black headscarves are the focus of the scene, with very captivating expressions. The woman on the right appears to look almost shocked, with her mouth ajar and her eyes widened. The woman on the left stares directly at us, her emotion less identifiable. The scene is intriguing, making us question what these women have heard or what has happened. Their faces have been painted with brilliant detail, capturing the shadows on their faces as well as the aged skin of the woman on the right. These two women are set against a blue-ish green backdrop, making their faces stand out even more from within their black head scarves.

The painting is wonderfully presented in a gilt frame with a linen lined border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A lovely and endearing miniature oil on canvas depicting a scene of a pedestrian walkway on a fine summer’s day.

A woman in the foreground can be seen walking with her 2 children to drop them off at school. They are holding flowers in their hands, that they’ve picked along their journey.

Rich and saturated colours fill this energetic painting; and the short and textured brushstrokes imbue the work with a sense of liveliness and joy.

What’s special too is that the artist has uniquely enhanced the greenery portion by adding graphite detailing in a ‘scribbled’ manner, adding a sense of three-dimensionality to the trees.

The painting is housed in a white card mount, and a green stained wood frame with a blue and gold inner wood border. The colours of the frame pick up on the colours within the painting beautifully, making it stand out even more. The work is glazed (there is a layer of plexiglass between the frame and the painting) to ensure its longevity.

An outstanding mid-century figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish artist Fabian Lundqvist (1913-1989), whose works have been represented in many public collections in Sweden.

The painting captures a scene of two ballerinas surrounded by an abstract background. On the ballerinas, rhe artist’s brushstrokes are gentle and soft, reflecting a careful attention to detail. Intentionally working with a limited colour palette, the artist has reduced the area around the ballerinas to angular planes in different gradients of brown.. Details such as the small but striking red lips of the figures, as well as the layout of flat shapes and planes are typical of Lundqvist’s style.
