    Clam

    Sold

    SOLD

A unique and captivating oil on canvas by contemporary Irish artist Jenny Belton.

Featuring a clam shell on a round box under a spotlight, this painting by Belton is a comment on the rarity of wisdom. A striking original mid century modernist composition, painted onto board and dated 1969 on the reverse by the established Swedish artist Gunnar Hållander (1915-1980), whose artworks have represented in public collections including the National Museum and Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Sundsvall Museum and the Institut Tessinin in Paris.

A group of vessels with circular tops are set against an off white surface. The artist uses a restrained palette – the picture is almost monochrome, except for the green and yellow circles, which draw our eye to the centre of the picture. An engaging abstract composition by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas board and dated 2024.
This painting has been created by responding to the colours of local landscapes through the seasons of the traditional Celtic Calendar.
Hints of sun, breaking though showers of rain. Take a breath and welcome Ostara, with its delicate snowdrops, Narcissi in bright yellows jumping out against the dark evergreen pines and trees which have stood strong through winters icy cover.

  • Rainbow Valley

    Rainbow Valley

    SOLD

A visually striking and uplifting modernist landscape composition, executed in oil.

This painting filled with a spectrum of colours presents a scenic view of an expanse landscape with a prominent tree on the right and also a small fence.

Realistic details have intentionally been left out, as the artist reconstructs this landscape scene by reducing its forms down to  coloured shapes and distinct brushstrokes.

Blocks of contrasting shades have been executed with expressive and painterly brushstrokes, imbuing the work with an energising feel whilst demonstrating depth and width to the painting.

This oil on canvas has been laid onto board, and is housed in a well-suited cream-coloured wood frame with an inner grey window.  The painting has a tiny spot of paint loss at the top right of the tree (as shown in the close ups), however, this does not detract and the paint layer is otherwise very stable. The frame has some scuffs.

    Size: 51 x 60 cm (including frame)
