An energetic and confidently executed mid-century floral still life composition, painted in oil board onto and dated 1953.
A dynamic arrangement of tulips punctuates the center of the composition.
Containing elements of post-impressionism, the painting is characterised by rich colours as well as loose and expressive brushwork that evoke emotion rather than merely represent the flowers.
The artist has used a rich palette is rich dominated by deep reds, vibrant pinks, and subtle greens, all contrasted against a dark muted backdrop. The darker tones of the background highlight the vibrancy of the flowers, drawing the viewer’s attention to them.
