  • Walking Amongst the Crowd

    Walking Amongst the Crowd

    Sold

    SOLD

A intriguing mid-century figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

The painting captures a crowd scene composed almost entirely of male figures in dark suits and black bowler hats, their backs turned toward the viewer. Breaking the visual uniformity are two female figures in vivid pink hats – one centrally placed and clad in pale blue, and another at the lower section in the composition, also crowned in red with a puff of white plume.

The work embraces a flattened perspective and graphic abstraction typical of mid-century modernism. The composition relies on broad, assertive brushstrokes and a limited, yet expressive palette. The black coats and hats dominate the scene in moody, expressive applications of paint, while the background is a soft grey-blue wash. The pink hats provide a visual jolt, their expressive, loose brushwork suggesting individuality and quiet rebellion amid conformity.

The overall effect is both playful and thought-provoking- an exploration of identity, anonymity, and contrast in a crowd.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary white frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

    Sold

    SOLD

An expressive and dynamic mid-century modernist abstract composition of nature that distills a vast landscape into bold planes of colour and a textured palette, painted in oil onto canvas.

The painting is structured around angular swathes of earth-toned fields – deep green, blues, whites and rust – intersected by a meandering dark line that evokes a path or stream. A central ridge of forested trees anchors the horizon, silhouetted against a brooding sky rendered in diagonal strokes of lavender, mauve, and blue.

Painted with vigorous, impasto brushwork, the surface is alive with energy. The artist’s crosshatched marks lend a sense of movement and seasonality, as though capturing the wind’s passage across the land. Edges are intentionally rough, revealing areas of white and giving the work an almost tactile sense of spontaneity.

    SOLD

A small and engaging  animal composition , painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting is a whimsical folk-art style depiction of a black boar standing on a gently sloping green landscape under a pale, lightly clouded sky. The boar is the central figure, rotund and slightly exaggerated in form, giving it a charming and humorous presence. Its head is tilted slightly upward, with small white tusks visible, perked ears, and a curious expression with wide, circular eyes.

The landscape is minimal and stylized, composed of two tones of green forming simple rolling hills. The sky is softly textured with a rustic finish.

The painting captures the personality of the animal in a playful and endearing way, with a focus on bold silhouette and minimal detail. Its simplicity and stylization make it both decorative and expressive—a delightful rural portrait with a touch of humor.

This oil is painted onto a solid and thick wood panel which although unframed, is meant to be hung as is. The painting is in excellent vintage condition.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

This painting depicts a sunlit café terrace beside the harbour in Paphos, Cyprus, rendered in a loose, impressionistic style. The scene exudes Mediterranean warmth and leisure, with golden light dominating the palette.

The buildings behind the terrace are painted in soft pastel tones—lavender, peach, and ochre—with subtle shadows suggesting the intensity of the midday sun. A fun and playful large 20th century cubist composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1975 by Belgian artist Pierre Goossens.

This painting is a vibrant and structured cubist-style still life, featuring a table densely packed with musical instruments and domestic objects, rendered in flattened geometric forms and bold, contrasting colours.

At the centre is a large guitar, overlapping with a mandolin or lute, both abstracted into simplified, stylized shapes. SOLD.

A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

The surface is covered in faded rose-hued cloth, visibly aged with subtle textures, creases, and discoloration that speak to its previous life as part of a book cover. A horizontal seam running across the midline subtly divides the work, adding a sense of structure and time-worn narrative.

At the centre is a vertically oriented, geometric element: a column of interlocking trapezoid-like shapes made from different tones of book cloth—warm creams, deep burgundies, and soft pinks. Beneath the vase, a flat plane of striped fabric anchors the composition. Painted in muted yet rhythmic tones of lavender, blue, rust red, and cream, the cloth introduces a modernist sense of geometry and contrast to the otherwise organic subject.

The artist’s style is minimalist and intentional, with a restrained palette and fine, dry brushwork. There is a contemplative stillness in the scene — a gentle harmony between form and pattern, nature and interior.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary  wood frame. Both the painitng and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

An serene modernist painting that captures the essence of a landscape through minimalist abstraction,  executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1987.

A charming mid-century figurative composition, executed in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish artist Fabian Lundqvist (1913-1989), whose works have been represented in many public collections in Sweden.

The scene unfolds in a garden setting where 2 female figures are depicted seated on white chairs. The atmosphere suggests a leisurely vacation, with lush greenery and a striped parasol framing the backdrop.

  • Geometric Fun

    Geometric Fun

    Sold

    SOLD

A very unique original abstract artwork, made up of paper that has painted, embroidered and then stitched together.

The paper has been stitched to create a three dimensional form that is mounted onto board and protected behind glass. The paper has been painted with an abstract composition using acrylic paint, and each alternating strip has been painted with different colours. As a result, the artwork changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. If viewed from the right, we see a geometric patterning of red, black and yellow. When viewed from the left, a series of angled lines criss-cross across the lighter coloured surface. Although it is technically a static piece, we have in fact a very dynamic artwork that changes constantly. The paper itself has also been embroidered with an intricate pattern which gives it textured detail, visible when viewed closely.

The artwork is presented in a black frame and protected behind glass. It is in very good condition. Ready to hang.

  • Grounded

    Grounded

    Sold

    SOLD

A wonderfully executed mid century modernist abstract composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

In this atmospheric composition, the artist has applied the paint thickly, creating lots of areas of impasto (where the paint stands proud from the surface) and variation in texture. Depicting what appears to be a rural landscape, the lower section of the painting has richer, earthier colours in broad sweeping brushstrokes . This juxtaposes against the lighter top half of the painting which has been painted in a mixture of white and lilac, with hints of blue underneath, alluding to the depth of layers within the painting.

There is a really earthy quality to the piece, and its abstract subject makes it an easy fit into most interiors.

The painting is housed in a silver leaf wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Horizon in Fragments

    Horizon in Fragments

    Sold

    SOLD

A bold and rhythmic composition mid-century modernist style painting that captures the essence of an abstracted landscape, painted in oil onto canvas.

The painting is structured through overlapping planes and blocks of colour that suggest rolling hills, fields, and sky – yet remain delightfully ambiguous, inviting interpretation.

The palette is striking and earthy: rich browns and rust tones mingle with teal, blue, and  green. The brushwork varies from smooth sweeps to dry, textural applications, creating depth and movement across the canvas. White edges and bare patches of the underlying surface provide breathing space and contrast, giving the composition a spontaneous and layered appearance.

With its geometric abstraction and organic undertones, the work evokes a cultivated terrain seen through the lens of memory, emotion, and form – a tribute to the land reduced to its essential shapes and tones.

This oil on canvas is housed in a very well-suited wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
