  • Bliss

    Sold

    SOLD.

A stunning picturesque landscape scene dated 1979, of houses spread across lush hills, with mountains in the background.

The short, swift and textured brushstrokes that have been executed so confidently imbue the work with energy and movement, yet the painting has an overall air of bliss and serenity.

What’s striking as well is the vibrant colour palette of choice. The artist has beautifully painted blocks of contrasting green in both saturated and pastel shades; and has skilfully been able to execute the painting with flat planes of colour while still maintaining perspective within the picture.

  • Walk

    Sold

    SOLD.

A cool palette of purples, greens and yellows render this semi abstract painting in oil. Pictorial details have been blurred and a suffused glow washes over the picture, eliminating visual clarity.  We are still able to discern the street scene ahead as the two figures walk down the alley, which gives this painting its compositional depth. There is a haunting beauty to this harmonious picture, where forms and light and atmosphere blend into one resolved unity.

Housed in a complementary gilt and off white frame, it is in good vintage condition with some areas of surface paint loss to the frame, commensurate with its age.

It is a highly textured work, with several areas of distinct impasto (where the paint has been applied thickly such that it stands proud from the surface) creating a three dimensional effect.

The painting is currently unframed, and is painted onto sturdy board. It could be displayed in its current state on an easel or leant against a shelf. It is in very good vintage condition. There is some surface paint loss to the outermost edges but this does not detract from the main image.

A subtle and calming panoramic view of a mountainous landscape scene. Soft brushstrokes in a mix of watercolour and gouache  imbue this painting with texture and a sense of three dimensionality. The painting is a wonderful reminder of the calming and restoring effect of nature and its surroundings.

The painting is housed in a washline off white card mount and a light wood frame, and is glazed, i.e. there is a sheet of glass between the frame and the artwork. • Alicante

An iconic and attractive scene of a promenade in the marina of Alicante, Spain. Here, magnificent palm trees line the waterfront promenade, and beautiful catamarans and sailboats are docked by marina in the Mediterranean Sea. Featuring a brilliantly bold and fauvist-like colour palette, this painting is characterised by its fierce brushwork and simplification of forms. Complementary colours have been used side by side, injecting a real vibrancy and energy to the painting.

This oil on board was painted in 1951, and is by Swedish artist Brita Hansson (1918-1979).  It is housed in an excellent vintage frame with several windows and a mix of different textures and colours. • Mauve Mountains

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A stunning and richly textured painting of a mountainscape.  The brushwork and colour palette really convey a sense of power and strength within the natural landscape. Distinct blocks of colour and thickly applied paint with areas impasto show off the technical skill and confidence of the artist. The composition of the painting is punctuated by the double tree trunks which feature in the foregound, splitting the picture into 3 parts and thereby shifting our gaze from left to right. The sloping curve of the mountain simultaneously draws our eyes downward, encouraging us to move our attention from the mountain, to the sky, and then to the ground.

The painting is housed in a really complementary gilt frame with hints of red. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

    Size: 65 x 49cm (including frame)

  • The Way Home

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A sweet painting depicting two figures on a village lane, painted in oil onto board. A very pleasant array of pastel tones has been used to create this scene, and a pink-ish purple hue seems to wash over the painting. Long and wide painterly brushstrokes draw our eyes in towards the painting and onwards to the landscape beyond. Two figures appear to be having a conversation on a country lane, perhaps saying their hellos or goodbyes, we do not know.  There is a sense of nostalgia and sentimentality with this painting, created by a combination of factors including the dreamy colour palette as well as the way in which the figures have been painted. Modernist techniques of creating space within the picture can be seen, such as the use of contrasting planes of colour rather than traditional methods of perspective.

The painting is housed in its original mid century wood frame, with an inner linen lined border. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Two for Joy

    Sold

    SOLD.

Painted in 1974, this joyful oil painting depicts two magpies perched within a luscious green tree. The artist has combined textured layers of paint and a playful colour palette to create this delightful painting. Swirls of pastel blue, orange and brown contrast beautifully with the much quicker and heavier dabs of green and yellow of the leaves on the tree.  As the well known nursery rhyme goes, sighting two magpies signifies the arrival of joy and good luck.

This painting is housed within a vintage style box frame that has been painted black. The frame has minor scuffs and the painting is in excellent vintage condition.

For those that may no longer remember, here’s the famous rhyme about magpies:

    “One for sorrow,
    Two for joy,
    Three for a girl,
    Four for a boy,
    Five for silver,
    Six for gold,
    Seven for a secret,
    Never to be told,
    Eight for a wish,
    Nine for a kiss
    Ten for a bird
    You must not miss.”

    Size: 38 x 34 cm (including frame)

  • Afternoon Rest

    Sold

A fantastic mid century oil on canvas depicting seated farmers. Here the artist has used colour and form to its full extent – traditional perspective has replaced with swathes of contrasting colour to create depth and three dimensionality within the picture. Dark, bold outlines and vibrant saturated colour painted on with visible and distinct brushstrokes form this particularly modernist picture that carries elements of cubism.

The painting is housed in its original deep profile wood and gilt frame with a linen lining. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Picnic in the Park

    Sold

    SOLD

Free domestic (UK) shipping. As this painting is very large, it is unlikely that we will be able to ship it internationally. If you are very interested and are located outside of the UK, contact us and we will see what we can do.

A very pleasant mid 20th century oil on canvas presenting a magnificent panoramic view of a park and the city.

The sky is blue, and the air is crisp; as 2 friends are enjoying their picnic in the park whilst admiring the stunning view that overlooks the city.

The artist has used a vibrant colour palette, especially multiple shades of green, that imbues the work with so much life and vitality. The brushstrokes used are short and broad, with each brush mark visible and distinct.

Furthermore, the composition is highly well-balanced – with the area of lush greenery and blue sky having equal visual weight.

This oil on canvas is in good vintage condition. There are minor areas of craquelure (fine cracks in the paint) as seen in the photos, but the paint layer is stable overall. Cracks forming within the paint layer is natural as the paint starts to age. Craquelure is not in itself harmful to the painting, and can add to the ‘quality’ of patina that only age can bring.

The work housed in a robust sage green frame that complements the artwork very well. There are some marks on the frame; and as it is its original frame, its joints are slightly delicate, but nevertheless, holds the painting well.

Despite the painterly and swift brushstrokes, the painting evokes an overall sense of calm, due to the stillness from the mountains and water stream.

  • Exhale

    Sold

    SOLD

This zen winter landscape rendered in a muted palette in oil is both simple and striking.  A snow covered field stretches into the distance, its horizon lined by a row of hazy trees. Mounds of seemingly barren land peak through the thin layer of snow. But barren it is not, merely taking its chance to rest through winter before the busier season of crops begin again. Its ploughed lines extend forward into the distance – here is the earth taking a long, much needed exhalation. A reminder that we all need to take a moment or two to rest, relax and breathe from time to time.

  • Moonlit Night

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A night scene of a figure walking through a courtyard, painted in rich saturated colour. In the centre of the painting we see a brightly lit street lamp, which seems to illuminate the rest of the picture. The street and houses, painted in contrasting colour, are set against the blue night sky. The lone walking figure sets the mood of the painting beautifully.

The painting reminds me of this poem by the poet Shalom Freedman:

I am a quiet old man walking on a quiet night
    All is calm
    Light in my soul
    And outside
    The breeze fresh and cool
    Soothes my mind-

    I am a quiet man
who has had much good in his life
    Walking home
    On a calm night
    When all is quiet
    And Peace in my soul

  • A Country Walk

    Sold

    SOLD.

An idyllic view of a country path curves to the left, obscuring our view of what lies just beyond the bend, tempting us to continue on in order to find out.

This picturesque miniature reminds us of the natural simplicity and beauty of what a simple country walk can offer. Flower lined paths and rolling hills beyond –  such a small picture and yet so much captured within. Stamping its presence is a bold gilt frame, whose concave profile invite us to look closer and peer into the painting.

This wonderful miniature oil is in excellent vintage condition.

    Painting Size: 7 x 7.5 cm

Overall Size: 16 x 17 cm (including frame)

Note: The photos used are not meant to be an accurate size representation of the artwork. Please check the dimensions before purchasing.

Miniature paintings are often overlooked treasures. Their small size means they can fit into an array of small spaces, adding interest to nooks and crannies. They can be displayed on a bookshelf or kitchen shelf, either standing on a mini easel or leant against other objects/books. If added to a group display, these small pieces act as a wonderful contrast to bigger pieces, and can add ‘punctuation’ to the group hang.
