A stunning and richly textured painting of a mountainscape. The brushwork and colour palette really convey a sense of power and strength within the natural landscape. Distinct blocks of colour and thickly applied paint with areas impasto show off the technical skill and confidence of the artist. The composition of the painting is punctuated by the double tree trunks which feature in the foregound, splitting the picture into 3 parts and thereby shifting our gaze from left to right. The sloping curve of the mountain simultaneously draws our eyes downward, encouraging us to move our attention from the mountain, to the sky, and then to the ground.
The painting is housed in a really complementary gilt frame with hints of red. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
