People in boats are returning back to the marsh ashore, as clouds fill the overcast sky, foreshadowing a storm.

The painting explores the powerful force and beauty of nature – evident through the use of strong, expressive and rhythmic brushstrokes – that wonderfully captures the energy of the wind over the rippling waters.

It is composed with a restrained earthy colour palette comprising shades of grey, brown and white –  which sets an overall somber tone to the work.

This oil on canvas is in excellent vintage condition. It is housed in a stunning grainy wood frame, with multiple gilt windows and an inner linen lining. There frame has some areas of wear (as shown in the images)
