Forming a large proportion of this picture is the sky, where colours of blue, white and orange have been blended skilfully to capture the beginnings of morning light. Although largely abstract in composition, we can just about discern a series of buildings, with tall trees dotted in and around them. To the lower left there appears to be a bridge or an aqueduct, where a small area of blue paint perhaps indicates the water running below it. The colour palette of this painting is largely restrained, with deep blues, greys and green taking centre stage. Vertical, downward, and distinct brushstrokes give this painting its modernist feel, and alternating light and dark tones create a sense of depth and space.
The painting is housed in its original mid century wood frame, with an inner hessian border. There are small areas of paint losses to the right edge and lower edge of the painting, but these do not detract from the overall attractiveness of the piece. The frame is in good vintage condition.

A playful and vibrant scene of 2 figures with a donkey wagon, painted in a fauvist style. The artist has used an array of non-naturalistic colours in loose sections, and has simplified the subjects such that it leans towards abstraction. He has also applied the theory of complementary colours in this painting, where pairs of colours that are opposite each other on a colour wheel are used side-by-side in the painting, making each other look brighter as a result. There is also a rejection of traditional three-dimensional space, as the artist has instead used flat areas of patches of colour to create a sense of pictorial space, drawing our attention to his use of bright emotive colours, simple shapes and painterly mark-making. We notice also that the artist has intentionally left areas of the canvas uncoloured and showing through.

A Swedish mid century riverscape scene, painted in oil on 1947. The painting is compositionally very well balanced and has a lovely depth to it, which the artist has created through capturing several elements of the landscape in layers. Branches and leaves of a tree peek in from the left, directing our eyes towards the river water, with its swirling ripples. Our eyes are then directed upwards by the tall tree that is just off centre, which then leads us to the row of colourful buildings that sit along the river edge. The light blue of the sky is reflected in the windows of the buildings, and again in the ripples of the water, creating a nice flow and harmony within the painting. There are several details that slowly reveal themselves as our eyes rest on the picture, making it a very satisfying picture to look at.
The painting is housed in its original mid century frame which has a red border with gilt tints, and and inner beige window. There are some marks to the lower section of the frame, but otherwise the painting is in good vintage condition with no losses.

The first of its type to be added to our collection, this unique artwork has been made through the use of dye on fabric (also known as batik). Handmade by the established Swedish painter and sculptor Fabian Lundqvist, this striking artwork features geometric sections in contrasting colours of a restrained palette. The artist has used varying forms and shapes to create an abstracted image of a figure by a village landscape. The distinctive style and composition of this piece is typical of the artist’s oeuvre.
The board on which the fabric is attached to is slightly uneven. There are some minor scattered surface marks to the fabric, typical for its age. The artwork is housed in a silver frame which has some minor scuffs to its edges.
