About the artist:

Ian Mood is a contemporary artist with an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York.

In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh).

Ian is a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Society Of Staffordshire Artists and the Artist Association of Nantucket (USA) where he regularly lectures as part of their summer arts programme. He was awarded the Artists Association of Nantucket Frank Swift Chase Plein Air Award in 2014.

Ian grew up in Stoke on Trent and studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

A large and atmospheric mid 20th century modernist pastel and gouache composition, depicting boats docked at a harbour.

Using a restrained colour palette comprising shades of black, blue and yellow, the mellow and muted tones create an air of nostalgia in this piece.

Loose brushstrokes though executed in a seemingly swift and unrestrained manner, are thoughtful and precise – wonderfully capturing the transient conditions of light and water.

This pastel and gouache composition is housed beautifully in a wide-profiled light gilt (champagne) and silver frame. It is also glazed (there is a sheet of glass between the frame and the painting). The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some areas of scuffing commensurate with its age. Please note that due to the glass there are areas of reflection in the photographs.
