A large and captivating mid-century landscape painting that presents a dynamic interplay between abstraction and representation, executed in oil onto canvas.

The painting presents a rural landscape dominated by an angular, white structure – likely a house or barn – set against rugged terrain. The composition balances organic and geometric forms, emphasising the contrast between man-made and natural elements.

The piece embodies elements of abstract expressionism, blending gestural and textured brushstrokes with semi-representational forms. The fragmented, layered approach to the structure hints at collage techniques, while the landscape itself is rendered through broad, sweeping gestures.

Earthy tones dominate the palette, with yellows, browns, and deep greens forming the background and landscape. The structure itself is highlighted with whites and light greys, accented by touches of muted blue.

The artist has used expressive, textured brushwork, layering thick and thin applications of paint. Loose, bold strokes define the landscape, while the structure features more deliberate, angular marks, emphasising the contrast between organic scenery and constructed form. The brushstrokes convey a sense of movement and depth, giving the impression of a weathered, windswept setting.

This large oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. There are some minor scuffs to bottom left frame corner, but it is in good condition otherwise.

    Walking Home Together

    Sold

    SOLD

A charming mid-century naïve style street scene painting that captures a gentle moment of everyday life, as two figures walk side by side along a softly curving village road, executed in oil onto board.

Modest houses with pitched roofs line the street, their forms simplified into harmonious blocks of colour, while a tall green fence guides the eye toward the distance. The figures, seen from behind, lend the composition a quiet intimacy and a sense of unspoken narrative – suggesting companionship, routine, and the calm rhythm of a small town.

The work balances figurative detail with abstraction. Architectural elements are reduced to essential shapes, and perspective is slightly naïve, giving the scene an almost memory-like quality.

The palette is soft yet expressive: muted blues, sage greens, and warm browns are offset by gentle greys and creamy whites. Occasional accents of pastel pink and lavender add warmth and visual interest without disrupting the overall calm.

Loose, confident brushstrokes are applied with visible texture, particularly in the road and building facades. The paint handling feels intuitive and painterly, with layered strokes that create movement and depth while maintaining a relaxed, unpolished charm.

  • The Gathering Hill

    The Gathering Hill

    Sold

    SOLD

An enchanting mid-century naïve style street scene composition, executed in oil onto board.

This painting presents a stylised street scene set against a radiant orange hillside, where a rhythmic procession of figures moves quietly along a winding path. Above them, a constellation of small, brightly coloured houses – each with red roofs and dark punctuated windows – rests across the slope like watchful sentinels. A solitary tree stands to one side, its simplified form lending balance and anchoring the composition within an imagined, almost dreamlike terrain. Below the path, tall, slender flowers rise in neat formation, reinforcing the painting’s sense of order, ritual, and gentle continuity.

Executed in a naïve, folk-inspired style, the work embraces deliberate simplicity and symbolic clarity over realism. The figures with elongated silhouettes are rendered with minimal detail. The houses, reduced to geometric blocks, and the evenly spaced floral motifs contribute to a harmonious, almost ceremonial rhythm across the canvas.

The colour palette is both bold and luminous, dominated by warm tones of burnt orange, amber, and ochre that saturate the landscape with warmth and intensity. These glowing hues are contrasted by jewel-like accents of cobalt blue, forest green, and deep brown within the houses, while flashes of red in the rooftops and flowers punctuate the composition with vitality. The sky, rendered in muted rust tones, enhances the sense of enveloping warmth and creates a cohesive atmospheric envelope.

Brushstrokes are thick, confident, and tactile, lending texture and dimensionality to the surface. The paint is applied with expressive freedom – sweeping and layered across the hillside, while more deliberate, smaller strokes define architectural details and figures. This material presence of paint reinforces the work’s authenticity and emotional immediacy.

    Available

    SOLD

An introspective mid-century modernist painting, executed in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish artist Fabian Lundqvist (1913-1989), whose works have been represented in many public collections in Sweden.

A serene and poetic scene unfolds beneath a pale blue evening sky, where two simplified figures stand in quiet conversation beside a cluster of whitewashed buildings. Rendered in a distinctly modernist style, the composition is reduced to pure geometric forms – the gabled roofs forming clean angular shapes against a flat expanse of blue.

The colour palette is restrained and atmospheric: powder blue for the sky, soft off-white for the buildings, deep charcoal for the ground and rooftops, and a delicate touch of brighter blue in the garment of the standing figure. A pale circular moon hangs in the sky, adding a gentle sense of stillness and introspection.

Brushwork is intentionally minimal and smooth, favouring broad, even planes of colour with softened edges that blur very slightly, giving the piece a dreamlike quality. The figures are reduced to silhouettes – faceless, quietly present – allowing the viewer to project their own story into the scene.

  • After the Rain

    After the Rain

    Sold

    SOLD

A nostalgic mid-century street scene painting that captures a moment of hushed movement after rainfall, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition captures figures walking along a wet, reflective roadway beneath a pale, cloud-laden sky. A modest row of houses recedes into the distance, while bare winter trees punctuate the composition, their slender trunks guiding the eye along the street’s gentle perspective. The pedestrians are rendered with understated anonymity, suggesting everyday life unfolding quietly rather than a specific narrative.

Stylistically, the painting balances realism with painterly abstraction. Forms are simplified and slightly softened, favouring mood and atmosphere over fine detail. The colour palette is restrained and harmonious: cool greys, muted blues, and soft whites dominate the sky and pavement, contrasted by earthy browns, mossy greens, and deep charcoals in the buildings and figures.

The brushwork is loose yet controlled. Broad, horizontal strokes suggest the sheen of rain on the street, while lighter, scumbled layers in the sky create a sense of drifting cloud and damp air. It captures a European old-town alleyway, showing a narrow, cobblestone street lined with tall ochre and terracotta-coloured buildings. The architecture features classic stone archways, multi-pane windows, and slanted rooftops with chimneys, evoking a sense of timelessness and quiet charm. Several small, loosely rendered human figures animate the scene, creating depth and movement.

The overall feel is calm and contemplative, bathed in soft natural light from a lightly clouded sky. Sold

    SOLD

A lively mid-century oil painting that captures a tightly woven urban street scene, composed of overlapping rooftops and clustered facades, executed in oil onto board.

The artist has reduced the architecture into simplified geometric planes, creating a rhythmic patchwork of shapes that echo the rise and fall of a townscape. A crisp white house with a bold terracotta roof stands at the center, anchoring the composition, while a striking teal roof to the left provides a vibrant counterbalance.

Executed in a modernist, almost cubist-inspired manner, the piece emphasises flattened forms and spatial compression rather than strict realism. The brushstrokes are controlled yet textured, with clear delineations that carve out the roofs and walls in confident blocks of colour.

The palette blends earthy reds, deep browns, and muted greys with contrasting highlights of creamy whites and a vivid turquoise. The restrained use of pastel lilacs and dusky pinks softens the angular geometry, lending warmth to the architectural study.Broad, solid brushstrokes define the rooftops with minimal blending, creating sharp contrasts between each plane. • Riverside Boulevard (Very large)

    Riverside Boulevard (Very large)

    Sold

    SOLD

A vibrant and lively cityscape bursting with movement and colour, dated 1974 and painted in oil by the established Swedish artist Uno Vallman (1913-2004) whose works are included in the Swedish National Museum and The Swedish Modern Museum, to name a few. His works are also included in the collections of Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and the Tessin Institute in Paris.

The scene centres around a pair of ornate towers rising from a bustling square, their facades animated with bright decorative motifs. Surrounding them, saturated-toned buildings with warm red roofs line the horizon, while to the right a gentle river curves through the city, complete with moored boats and strolling figures. Cars, pedestrians and flowing pathways fill the foreground, giving the scene an energetic, almost theatrical rhythm.

Rendered in a highly expressive and fauvist style, the work embraces bold contour lines and playful distortion to convey atmosphere rather than strict realism. The palette is vibrant and uplifting: lemon yellow, turquoise, sky blue, coral, and soft reds creating a sun-drenched glow across the composition. Brushstrokes are loose, gestural and almost calligraphic, with dashes, swirls and rhythmic marks animating every surface. The result is a joyful, kinetic interpretation of urban life, full of colour and charm.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition

    Size: 81 x 97 cm (including frame)

  • Under the Evening Moon

    Under the Evening Moon

    Sold

    SOLD.

A serene mid-century street scene landscape composition, painted in oil onto board in 1943 by the established Swedish artist Richard Björklund (1897–1974), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Ystads Art Museum, and others.

A lone figure, dressed in pale tones, walks along a soft earthen path leading past whitewashed houses and verdant trees. The warm, golden orb of the moon sun hovers low in the sky, diffusing a gentle glow across the tranquil landscape.

Executed in a restrained yet expressive modernist style, the painting features simplified geometric forms and broad, confident brushstrokes that evoke mood over detail. The palette is harmonious and understated: soft mauves, sage greens, muted browns, and twilight blues – conjuring the serenity of evening light settling over the countryside.

The artist’s brushwork is smooth yet deliberate, with layered strokes that suggest texture and depth while maintaining a sense of calm minimalism. There’s a quiet intimacy to the composition: a tender moment of stillness suspended between day and night.

This oil on board is presented in a complementary gilt frame with a broad inner linen border. A few marks can be seen above the tree area of the painting, otherwise it is in very good vintage condition. Some age spots are visible on the linen border of the frame, along with light scuffs. These minor imperfections are consistent with age and definitely do not detract from the overall presentation.

  • Market Day Under the Sun

    Market Day Under the Sun

    Sold

    SOLD.

A mid-century modernist oil painting that captures the quiet charm of a sunlit village square on market day, executed in oil onto board.

In the foreground, a vendor stands beside a rustic wooden cart laden with fresh produce, partially shaded by a large parasol. Additional market stalls, some  green canopies, dot the square, their displays adding splashes of red, orange, and green to the scene. Figures move leisurely among the stalls, their forms simplified yet expressive, lending an almost timeless quality to the market’s atmosphere.

The artist has used a modernist sensibility, with strong compositional contrasts between light and shadow. Sunlight spills across the cobblestones, casting deep angular shadows, while the muted facades of surrounding buildings form a subdued backdrop, allowing the market activity to take centre stage. The palette is warm and harmonious –  sandy orange, terracotta, soft greys, and earthy greens – with vibrant bursts of colour in the produce.

Brushstrokes are confident and broad, with areas of flat, blended colour offset by more textured, visible strokes in the umbrellas and produce. The treatment is painterly –  focusing on shape, light, and atmosphere rather than fine detail.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary hessian-lined wood frame with an inner cream border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Terracotta Roofs

    Terracotta Roofs

    Sold

    SOLD.

A very well executed mid century modernist composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

This painting beautifully captures the essence of a peaceful village landscape through a modernist lens, reducing the scene to essential shapes and colours. The interplay of geometric forms, earthy tones, and textured brushwork creates a tranquil, structured composition that evokes a sense of timelessness and quiet beauty.

The scene is dominated by white and beige buildings with terracotta roofs, arranged in a way that creates depth and perspective. The foreground features a stone wall and a small courtyard, leading the viewer’s eye toward the central structures. In the background, rolling green and blue mountains provide contrast and a sense of scale.

The paint is applied with visible, textured brushstrokes, giving the scene a slightly rough, organic quality. The simplified shapes and slightly flattened perspective enhance the painting’s modernist approach.

The balance between abstraction and realism makes the scene feel both structured and timeless. The emphasis on light and shadow, though subtle, adds depth.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary natural wood frame with an inner linen border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

    The Quiet Road Home

    Sold

    SOLD

A soothing mid-century oil painting that captures a quiet street scene lined with houses and trees, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun., and executed in oil onto board.

A row of houses lines the street, their facades softened by warm tones of terracotta, and muted blue. Tall, bare trees rise dramatically against the pale evening sky, their stark branches casting long, angular shadows across the path. A figures on the right has been reduced to a simplified silhouette, move gently along the sunlit road, adding a quiet human presence without disturbing the stillness of the scene.

Executed in a modernist style, the painting emphasises simplified forms and a rhythmic interplay of light and shadow rather than intricate detail. The brushstrokes are bold yet controlled, with swift, directional strokes that echo the lines of the trees and the lengthening shadows.

The artist employs a harmonious balance of warm and cool tones to evoke the calm of twilight. The golden glow of the sunset contrasts with the cooler blue-greys of shaded areas, enhancing the depth of the composition.
