This modernist landscape features several areas of heavy impasto where the paint has been applied very generously, giving this painting a wonderful depth with several layers. Though the palette is fairly minimal, the artist has managed to capture the essence of this wintery wooded landscape, giving the impression of a very far reaching landscape. There is almost a mirror like effect, where the colours used for the sky are repeated on the trees and the ground, creating a very harmonious composition. The slim white birch trees stand vertically upright across the scene, juxtaposing the largely horizontal brushwork that has been used.
The painting is house in a linen lined frame with an inner silver border, which suits the painting impeccably. The canvas has a small closed tear to the upper edge, as seen in photos.
