A large and very atmospheric painting, executed in oil onto canvas.
A vast expanse of soft blue-grey sky dominates the composition, while the landscape below is suggested rather than defined through loose passages of sage green, chalky white, dusty pink and muted mauve. Fleeting marks hint at fields, water, distant trees and perhaps a road or pathway disappearing into the scene, but nothing is quite fixed — allowing the landscape to hover beautifully between abstraction and reality.
With its large size, it has real presence without feeling overpowering; its generous scale and wonderfully subdued palette give it a quiet, contemplative quality that would bring both softness and interest to a room.
This painting is housed in a very complementary silver frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some light scuffing.
