Light Over the Valley

A serene mid-century modern semi-abstract landscape that distils the countryside into a harmonious arrangement of colour, shape, and light, executed in oil onto board.

Rolling fields unfold across the foreground, leading the eye towards a tranquil body of water and a scattering of farm buildings nestled beneath distant blue-grey hills. A small stand of stylised trees anchors the composition, lending both rhythm and balance to the expansive scene.

Executed in a distinctly Scandinavian modernist manner, the painting favours simplification over detail, reducing the landscape to broad geometric forms and carefully calibrated planes of colour.

The palette is soft and restrained, dominated by creamy whites, muted sage greens, pale yellows, and layered blues that recede gently into the horizon. Subtle touches of lavender-grey and warm earth tones add depth and atmosphere, while the luminous sky bathes the entire scene in a delicate, diffused light.
