    Sold

    SOLD

A gentle and serene mid-century landscape that depicts a quiet stand of slender trees rising gracefully from a soft, sunlit meadow, executed in oil onto board and dated 1948.

Their pale trunks stretch upward with an airy elegance, forming delicate vertical rhythms against a hazy sky. Behind them, gentle mounds of foliage in muted greens create a sense of depth and calm, while the distant horizon rests in a band of cool blue.

Rendered in a distinctly mid-century modernist style, the composition favours simplification and harmony over strict naturalism. The artist reduces the scene into calming shapes and soft colour blocks, capturing the essence of place through atmosphere rather than detail.

The colour palette is beautifully restrained: powdery sky blues, cool greys, sage greens, and warm straw-toned yellows. Together, they evoke the soft light of a quiet morning. The brushstrokes are tactile and expressive yet controlled, with gently layered textures that bring a subtle movement to the surface. Short, broken strokes define the grasses, while smoother, blended passages build the trees and sky, lending the piece a breezy, contemplative quality.

This oil on board is housed in an elegant linen-lined wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

St Ives Head I (Very Large)

    Sold

    SOLD

    Free UK delivery only.

A very large and atmospheric abstract landscape painting, executed in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.

This abstract oil painting of St Ives Head conveys a powerful impression of the Cornish landscape through bold colour blocks and expressive brushwork. The composition is dominated by a strong horizontal division:

The lower portion features lush, vibrant greens, suggestive of the headland’s grassy terrain. These greens are layered and varied, with hints of dark shadows and occasional streaks of red and orange adding depth and movement. A sweeping form of deep black and charcoal arcs through the upper and middle sections, perhaps alluding to the rocky outcrop of St Ives Head or the moody Atlantic shadows. This shape anchors the piece and creates dramatic contrast. Surrounding these darker masses, icy blues and muted whites evoke the sky and sea, with the brushwork ranging from smooth to vigorously textured. Pops of pink and red in fine linear marks add visual interest and energetic tension across the central area.

The painting is both abstract and landscape-inspired, distilling the raw essence of the coastal headland into expressive colour fields and gestural marks. It reflects the elemental forces of land, sea, and weather typical of St Ives, rendered in a deeply personal, modernist style.

This very large oil on board is housed in a complementary light grey frame.  Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

Fields of Stillness (Set of 2)

    Sold

    SOLD

An elegant pair of mid-century landscapes that capture the quiet poetry of rural life through a minimalist modernist lens, and executed in oil onto canvas.

Both works feature sweeping compositions that draw the viewer into open countryside scenes  – one depicting a farmhouse on a distant ridge under a wide, tranquil sky, and the other showing a meandering country road curving gently toward thatched cottages.

The artist’s style is distinctly modernist, characterised by bold, simplified forms and strong, rhythmic geometry within the land contours. The palette is a refined harmony of sage greens, browns, and teal-blue skies – colours that evoke both calm and structure. Thick, expressive brushstrokes convey texture and light with confident economy, allowing the paint itself to suggest the terrain’s movement and atmosphere.

Together, the pair exudes balance and quiet strength – timeless mid-century pieces that celebrate the stillness and spaciousness of the rural landscape while offering a refined decorative harmony.

  • Forest Geometry

    Forest Geometry

    Sold

    SOLD

A brilliantly executed mid-century modernist landscape that reimagines a wooded scene through the lens of abstraction and cubism, painted in oil onto canvas.

The painting depicts a stand of slender trees rising before a distant hillside, their forms fractured into geometric planes and rhythmic verticals. At the composition’s heart, a dark evergreen anchors the scene – its deep green tones contrasting against the softer mosaic of browns, blues, and muted mauves that fill the surrounding terrain.

Through overlapping geometric forms and layered brushstrokes, the artist has constructed the landscape as an interplay of colour and shape rather than a literal depiction of nature. Earthy greens, browns, and yellows are interwoven with muted mauves, cool blues, and touches of rose and teal, creating a sense of quiet motion and depth.

The brushwork is assertive, with visible texture lending a tactile quality to the surface. Planes of colour shift and intersect, capturing the essence of light filtering through trees while also flattening and reordering space — a hallmark of Cubist experimentation.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has scuffs and some areas of paint loss.

The artist has used a restrained palette of earthy greens, warm yellows, and muted greys that evokes a sense of stillness, balancing abstraction with familiarity. The forms are distilled to their essence – the foliage reduced to layered shapes, the tree rendered as a luminous form pulsing with autumnal warmth.

    Harbour & Hillside

    Sold

    SOLD

A serene mid-century coastal landscape that captures the rhythmic order of a harbour scene rendered through a distinctly modernist lens, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1963.

Clusters of geometric buildings and cranes line the waterfront, their angular forms carefully arranged to evoke both structure and serenity. The distant hills rise gently across the water, balancing the composition with soft undulating lines against the rigid shapes of the port.

The artist has used a palette of muted yet harmonious tones – brick red, sage green, browns, blush, and blue – creating a subdued but richly layered harmony of colour. Each hue appears thoughtfully modulated, suggesting light glancing off the industrial surfaces and calm waters below.

The brushwork is confident and deliberate, with flat, interlocking planes that give the painting an almost architectural rhythm. Despite the simplified forms, there is a deep sense of atmosphere and quietude, as though the bustling port has been momentarily stilled in contemplation.

  • The Steam Train

    The Steam Train

    Sold

    SOLD

A charming mid-century modernist landscape composition in oil, painted onto board by Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

This landscape painting captures a stylised countryside scene with a steam train cutting across the middle ground, its billowing white smoke rising into a pale blue sky. The artist has simplified the forms into bold, geometric blocks of colour: deep greens and browns for the fields, sandy beige for the pathways, and darker earthy tones for the hills. A sliver of blue at the horizon suggests the sea, adding depth and contrast to the composition.

Painted in a distinctly modernist style, the work reduces natural detail in favour of strong shapes and tonal contrasts. The brushstrokes are broad and confident, applied with a matte, almost flat quality, lending the piece a sense of clarity. The balance between abstraction and representation gives the scene both immediacy and timeless simplicity, characteristic of mid-century aesthetics.

This oil on board is presented in a complementary gilt frame. The painting has some light surface marks but this does not detract and it is in good vintage condition overall, and the frame has scuffs present.

  • Twilight Stream

    Twilight Stream

    Sold

    SOLD

A atmospheric composition that captures the quiet drama of a winter landscape yielding to the subtle warmth of dusk setting, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1987.

This expressive scene depicts a partially frozen stream meandering through snow-covered banks, framed by dark, leafless trees and a softly glowing sky. The distant treeline is rendered in deep purples, blues and black, while the sky behind it glows with streaks of peach, rose, and apricot – suggesting the final light of day.

The artist has used swift brushstrokes, especially in the forest and sky, that conveys movement and atmosphere. The snowbanks are painted with thick, angular swathes of white, grey, and pale pink, while the water is composed of smoother, horizontal strokes in blues and greys, lending a mirror-like stillness. The overall style merges impressionism with expressionist undertones, balancing realism with emotional depth.

    SOLD

This vintage traditional handmade Peruvian kilim rug is a stunning example of Andean textile artistry, blending abstract symbolism with a soft, earthy colour palette. The rug features geometric motifs inspired by mountain landscapes, trees, and native forms, all rendered in a flat-weave style typical of traditional Peruvian kilims.

Warm terracotta, sandy beige, muted pink, clay brown, and soft blue dominate the palette, evoking the colours of the Peruvian highlands. Repeating triangular and circular forms resemble stylised mountains, birds, and trees, arranged in mirrored sections across the rug. The motifs are separated by zigzag and wave-like lines in blue and rust tones, suggesting movement or rivers flowing through a valley.

This rug has undergone professional cleaning and remains in very good condition. The rug’s shape is very slightly irregular, which is typical for handmade or traditionally woven pieces, adding to its authenticity and charm.

  • House on the Hill

    House on the Hill

    Sold

    SOLD

A large and lively landscape painting that depicts a quiet suburban scene dominated by a white house set against lush greenery and an expansive blue sky, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1985.

The composition is pared back to essential geometric forms – rectangular planes of house, hedge, and pavement, offset by rounded, block-like shapes of trees and bushes. A solitary vertical pole bisects the scene, adding structure and balance.

The style is characteristically modernist, emphasizing abstraction over fine detail. Colours are laid down in broad, flat fields: vivid cobalt blue for the sky, deep greens for the hedges, warm purples and greys for the street and hillside, punctuated by flashes of yellow and red that animate the composition.

The brushstrokes are bold, applied with confident, blocky movements that create a sense of solidity and rhythm rather than illusionistic depth. This restrained yet expressive handling distills the everyday view into a harmonious study of form, colour, and balance.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary slim wood frame. The painting is in good vintage condition – there is some light surface craquelure to the house areas as shown in close ups but the paint layer is very stable.

A charming mid-century modernist style landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish artist Richard Björklund (1897–1974), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Malmo Museum, Ystads Art Museum, and others.

The painting captures a tranquil rural scene rendered with bold simplification and abstracted form. The skilful interplay of light and shadow suggests a late afternoon sun. Thatched-roof cottages are nestled along a gently curving path, partially obscured by the angular branches of leafless trees. The geometric structure of the roofs contrasts beautifully with the organic rhythm of the trunks and overhanging limbs.

  • Whispers of Blue

    Whispers of Blue

    Sold

    SOLD

A very pleasant and soothing modernist abstract landscape oil composition dated 1964, and painted by the established Swedish artist Ture Fabiansson (1910-1994), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, The Museum of Art in Gothenburg, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and many others.

The painting presents a lyrical abstraction of nature, rendered in a simplified, expressive manner. Dominating the canvas is a large, cloud-like form in soft sky blue, spreading across the surface in loose, swirling brushstrokes that suggest movement and depth. Around this central mass, smaller organic shapes in earthy olive-greens rise vertically, evoking trees or natural formations, while muted pink and cream passages peek through, softening the composition.

The style is minimalist yet painterly, leaning toward abstraction while still evoking landscape elements. The palette is restrained but harmonious: pale blue, moss green, muted pink, and warm beige. The brushwork is broad, textured, and somewhat gestural, creating a sense of spontaneity and rhythm.

Overall, the piece balances form and void, evoking the serenity of a landscape distilled into pure colour and shape.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary silver painted frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
