Seemingly a nod to the Spanish novel Don Quixote, this delightful mid century narrative oil painting features a host of animals, people and objects, executed in a Naïve style.
The man on the horse to the bottom left, the house with the windmill, and the second man on the donkey (presumably), are perhaps all references to the first modern novel Don Quixote.

We have not been able to quite put a finger on what the two figures are doing – they look like they could be drying out something, given the firewood in the picture, or perhaps they are weaving with a loom in front of the seated figure. A large bag of logs sits to the right of the picture, a pair of barrels can be seen to the left, and wooden beams run across the roof. The picture has a lovely homely feel, with an earthy palette of browns and greens. There is an array of detail, which makes it very interesting puzzle to try and work out.
