    Pair of Staffordshire Dogs (Blue)

    Sold

    SOLD

A delightful pair of paintings that reimagine the classic Staffordshire spaniel dogs, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel by British artist Matt Rix.

Presented as a facing pair, they echo the traditional mantelpiece figurines of the 19th century, yet with a fresh, painterly twist.

Both dogs are shown seated upright, with white coats patterned in bold black patches that resemble stylised floral motifs. Their long, drooping black ears frame alert, soulful faces, each with bright yellow eyes and a small red mouth that add character and charm. Around their necks, the dogs wear golden collars with chain detailing, reinforcing their heritage as symbols of loyalty, companionship, and domestic pride.

The backgrounds are particularly striking: a rich blue striped wall adds depth and rhythm, while the flat grey ground anchors the figures firmly in space. The bold use of colour contrasts beautifully with the black frames, enhancing the decorative presence of the pair.

As with traditional Staffordshire dogs, one faces left and the other right, making them perfect companions. Their folk-art simplicity, flat planes of colour, and stylised forms give them a timeless, iconic appeal, at once nostalgic and contemporary.

These paintings are appealing because they strike a balance between playfulness and heritage—celebrating the charm of Staffordshire dogs while transforming them into striking, graphic artworks that would add warmth and character to any wall.

Each of these oils on board are housed in black painted wood frames with subtle gilt detailing. Both paintings are in excellent condition. The frames have some very minor scuffs but this is in keeping with their vintage style.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

  • Pair of Staffordshire Dogs (Red)

    Pair of Staffordshire Dogs (Red)

    SOLD

A very charming pair of paintings depicting the iconic Staffordshire spaniel dogs, long celebrated in British folk art and ceramics, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel by British artist Matt Rix.

The two dogs are painted in a deliberately naïve, decorative style that recalls the 19th-century porcelain mantelpiece figures they are inspired by.

Each dog sits upright against a muted pinkish-red background, with a simple brown ground anchoring them in place. Their white coats are adorned with large chestnut-brown patches—rendered in stylised, almost floral shapes—that add rhythm and balance to the composition. Both dogs wear gilt collars with chain details, a hallmark of traditional Staffordshire imagery. Their soulful yellow eyes, drooping ears, and small red mouths give them an expressive, slightly whimsical quality, striking a balance between charm and solemnity.

Presented as a pair, the paintings echo one another but are not identical—one dog faces left, the other right—making them natural companions, just as Staffordshire figurines were traditionally displayed in pairs.

The appeal lies in their folk-art simplicity and decorative strength: bold flat shapes, warm earthy tones, and a sense of nostalgia that makes them feel timeless yet playful. They would add both character and heritage charm to any wall, bridging the line between painting and folk tradition.

Each of these oils on board are housed in chestnut brown painted wood frames with subtle gilt detailing. Both paintings are in excellent condition. The frames have some very minor scuffs but this is in keeping with their vintage style.

    SOLD

A playful and organic one-off original monoprint presented in a sapele frame, by British artist Olivia Bouzyk.

Unlike most printmaking, where artists create an edition of identical prints, a monoprint produces just one final piece. Olivia works on a plate — inking, painting, and layering textures — and then transfers the image onto paper. But because of the process, it can never be repeated in the same way again.

This artwork is created from two layers of ink on purple card. There is a slight texture to the dark blue, as some of the purple background can be seen underneath. The yellow flowers are slightly translucent but with thicker, textured ink. The flowers are made from a paper stencil which was of a drawing from the Essex coastline.

Each work holds the spontaneity of the moment it was made — the way the ink spread, the pressure of the press, the marks left behind. No two are ever alike. When you own one of Olivia’s prints, you’re holding the only version that exists.

Olivia works with contrasts in line, colour and form and a sense of harmony is achieved by balancing this series of juxtapositions.

This artwork, as with the others, has no intended direction, so it can be hung to suit the viewer’s space/inclinations. The fixtures on the back of all the prints are on each side so that they can be hung in any direction, and the signature also has no intended direction.

It is mounted and housed in a high quality sapele wood frame with anti reflective UV glass. Both frame and artwork are in excellent condition.

A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

It features a vertical alignment of four textured circles—each a slightly different hue of earthy reds, browns, and burgundy—centred against a richly layered, abstract background of burnt orange, yellow, and sienna tones. The tactile surface gives a weathered, organic feel, and the texture of the book bindings adds depth and history to the composition.

The visual symmetry of the circles contrasts with the expressive and imperfect background, inviting viewers to reflect on order within disorder or harmony within age and decay.

A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

The composition consists of two muted circular forms, each placed centrally within the upper and lower halves of the piece. The circles—soft pinkish and earthy reddish tones—are made from swatches of book covers, creating a tactile contrast against the rich, golden-brown marbled background.

The background evokes a sense of aged parchment or worn leather, enhancing the artwork’s connection to its literary origins. The precise placement of the circles introduces a sense of symmetry and contemplation, while the visible grain and patina of the materials speak to time, reuse, and the quiet endurance of objects past.

  • Abstract Plants

    Abstract Plants

    £320

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A small and visually impactful semi-abstract composition in oil, painted by British artist Lloyd Durling,

The surface is thick with textured impasto, giving the work a tactile, almost sculptural presence. The composition is divided into vivid colour blocks—warm corals, sunny yellows, soft aquas, and hints of mint—intersected by expressive black and blue marks that suggest organic forms.

Lloyd’s use of thick paint application invites a physical response—you can almost feel the surface just by looking at it. This rich texture adds depth and dynamism, engaging the senses beyond the visual.

The loosely defined forms gives us viewers just enough to begin imagining plants and stems without being literal. Its small size encourages close, personal viewing. It feels like a private experience—something to be studied and absorbed in a quiet moment. A perfect example of how small artworks can carry a big impact.

This impasto painting is mounted a dark stained oak frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

Lloyd is based in London and his practice is painting-based. His first international solo show was in 2010 at Golden in Chicago and he has exhibited widely throughout Europe, Asia and the US. In 2017 he was awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant. Lloyd’s works are held in public and private collections worldwide, including the Whitworth Art Gallery and Museum, Progressive collection, America and Nomura Bank, Japan.

A brilliantly executed contemporary landscape composition, painted onto canvas by British artist Nicky Knill Jones.

The painting presents a sweeping view of the rugged Cornish coastline near Zennor, interpreted through a loose, expressive style. The artist uses a subdued, cool palette of soft greys, whites, muted greens, and hints of blue to evoke the windswept drama of this natural landscape.

Foreground brushstrokes suggest rocky outcrops and coastal vegetation, leading the eye toward a winding shoreline or inlet that curves through the midground. The hills and cliffs in the distance are rendered in hazy, blended tones that capture the atmospheric light and shifting weather typical of Cornwall. The sky, expansive and heavy with cloud, adds a moody, contemplative tone to the scene.

Overall, the composition conveys a strong sense of place—wild, remote, and elemental—while maintaining a lyrical abstraction that emphasises feeling over detail.

A brilliantly executed contemporary abstract composition, executed in acrylic onto canvas, by British artist Frances Daws.
The paintings in this series respond to the calming presence of the colour green. Frances consciously spends as much time as she can outside. She lives close to woodlands and fields, making it easy to be immersed within greenery. Resting in Green seeks to capture the varying shades of greens within a snapshot of plants and how the relationship of these colours can form interesting compositions.

St Ives Head I (Very Large)

    £1,400

    Available

    Free UK delivery only.

A very large and atmospheric abstract landscape painting, executed in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.

This abstract oil painting of St Ives Head conveys a powerful impression of the Cornish landscape through bold colour blocks and expressive brushwork. The composition is dominated by a strong horizontal division:

The lower portion features lush, vibrant greens, suggestive of the headland’s grassy terrain. These greens are layered and varied, with hints of dark shadows and occasional streaks of red and orange adding depth and movement. A sweeping form of deep black and charcoal arcs through the upper and middle sections, perhaps alluding to the rocky outcrop of St Ives Head or the moody Atlantic shadows. This shape anchors the piece and creates dramatic contrast. Surrounding these darker masses, icy blues and muted whites evoke the sky and sea, with the brushwork ranging from smooth to vigorously textured. Pops of pink and red in fine linear marks add visual interest and energetic tension across the central area.

The painting is both abstract and landscape-inspired, distilling the raw essence of the coastal headland into expressive colour fields and gestural marks. It reflects the elemental forces of land, sea, and weather typical of St Ives, rendered in a deeply personal, modernist style.

This very large oil on board is housed in a complementary light grey frame.  Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

    £740

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A very atmospheric and expressive landscape painting, executed in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.

It is a dynamic, abstracted landscape that captures the essence of walking along a windswept shoreline trail. It blends expressive brushwork, shifting textures, and a vivid, elemental palette to evoke both the physical and emotional experience of the coastline.

Pink dashes and shapes dance across the centre, adding rhythm and possibly indicating human presence, wildflowers, or directional markers on a path. The brushwork is loose, textural, and emotionally charged, capturing fleeting impressions over literal depiction.]

Overall, the painting conveys solitude, discovery, and elemental energy. It’s less about representing a specific location and more about evoking the feeling of being immersed in nature—the wind on your face, the shifting weather, the wide horizon ahead. It celebrates the freedom and introspection of walking the edge between land and sea.
