  • The Climb

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An absolutely stunning oil depicting two figures walking through vast landscape. Scale here has been stretched to its utmost, with the human figures so small it is easy to miss them. The vast landscape is what fills most of this painting, reminding us humans of our position in the universe. We are but a speck. We feel a calming sense of awe when looking at this piece – its focus on nature emphasises its separateness and indifference to our humanly desires and concerns.

This mid century painting is appropriately housed in a wide off white wood frame with gilt detailing. The painting is in excellent condition. The frame is very stable and in good condition overall but has some minor bumps (refer to photos), but these do not detract from the painting.

    Size: 52 x 60 cm (including frame)

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A stunning miniature seascape with lots of details to appreciate. Within this tiny picture we have 6 boats amidst calm waters, including a very finely detailed three-masted sailing vessel with soldiers on board. The artist has taken great care to include many different elements, from birds, to different types of vessels, to subtle changes between sea and sky.

The painting is housed within an ornately moulded, wide profile gilt frame.

    Painting Size: 18.5 x 24cm

Overall Size: 30.5 x 35.5 cm (including frame)

Note: The photos used are not meant to be an accurate size representation of the artwork. Please check the dimensions before purchasing.

Miniature paintings are often overlooked treasures. Their small size means they can fit into an array of small spaces, adding interest to nooks and crannies. They can be displayed on a bookshelf or kitchen shelf, either standing on a mini easel or leant against other objects/books. If added to a group display, these small pieces act as a wonderful contrast to bigger pieces, and can add ‘punctuation’ to the group hang.

  • By the Window

    Sold

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A well-executed and detailed oil on canvas of a vase of beautiful red flowers placed by a window pane.

The artist gives us a glimpse of the cold winter’s day outside, as we see a snow-filled ground through the clear glass window.

Very soft and painterly brushstrokes have been used to create a smooth and delicate effect to the work; yet the artist has skilfully managed to evoke a strong sense of three-dimensionality – from the drapes of the curtains, to the roundness of the vase, and curves of the leaves that have all been splendidly painted.

This artwork is housed in a thin cherry wood frame that complements the piece really well.

There is a straight vertical tear the right side of the painting (refer to photos) that has been closed with tape on the reverse (refer to photo). Otherwise the painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.

  • Paris

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An absolutely stunning miniature impressionist painting of a view in Paris, most probably Montmartre. This original oil carries such confidence within its small frame. The artist shows off his skill, contrasting strong and heavily impasto-ed areas of thick paint (achieved through the use of a palette knife) with areas of detail and softer brushwork. The artist has managed to perfectly capture the sunlight pouring over the roofs of the grand buildings, and the city streets below.

Housed in a thin gilt and linen-lined frame, this miniature oil is in excellent vintage condition.

    Painting Size: 16 x 13 cm

Overall Size: 20.5 x 17 cm (including frame)

  • Grandmother

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An endearing mid 20th century painting of an intimate and well-decorated home setting.

An elderly lady sits on a small bench preparing food, as she waits for the pot to heat up in the large fire stove beside her.

The plethora of colours used in this work is remarkable, as well as the intricate detailing of the objects lying around which include the flower pots by the window still, the white pitcher beyond the open door, as well as the pots and pans, and a colourful rug on the floor. The door that is ajar adds a sense of openness to this painting – we feel welcomed into the space, without feeling trapped or enclosed.

It comes with a unique dark wood frame with evenly spaced divots, outlining the painting beautifully.

The canvas appears to have been previously removed from a backing or stretchers and re-laid on to board, fixed down with staples. Puncture marks from the previous framing method are visible around the outer edges of the canvas, as shown. The painting itself is in excellent condition with no paint loss, and so is the frame that it is housed in.

  • The Catch

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A very large and vibrant oil painting on board with a wonderful array of details to notice. The painting almost ‘unfolds’ before  us as we look at it, with lots of individual areas of detailing becoming apparent as we let our eyes wander across the picture. At first glance we notice the main scene taking place in the foreground, where a group of fishermen surround their catch of the day. Then we start to notice the other activities taking place, such as the woman spinning yarn on the right, as well as the features of the cityscape beyond. Then, almost as if to surprise us, little animals along the lower border soon reveal themselves to us – the rabbit, frog, dog with bird in mouth, and duck. Even as the picture recedes, the artist has taken great care to paint in all the details, including the cranes and factories in the far distance.

This wonderful painting with so much to offer measures 80.9 x 48.1cm. There are some areas of paint losses to the bottom of the painting but this would be easily covered by a frame.

    Size: 80.9 x 48.1cm

  • Moroccan Tales

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A captivating and expressive mid 20th century oil painting presenting an everyday scene of a lively local town in Morocco.

The sky is beaming blue, and it is a scorching hot day, as the sun’s strong rays have illuminated the colourful line up of buildings and stalls, and the pathway.

A group of Moroccan men can be seen passing through. They are dressed in turbans and djillabas, which is a long outer robe and is one of the most popular forms of traditional Moroccan clothing. Donkeys, which are an integral part of Moroccan life, are featured in this painting, as a man is depicted riding on one as his main mode of transportation.

Moroccans are known for their warmth, openness and sociability, and this painting so wonderfully captures the essence of their nature- the rich and warm array of colours used in this painting is so vibrant and welcoming, and are harmonised extremely well together; and the expressionistic brushstrokes used imbue the painting with much vigor and liveliness.

This oil on canvas comes in a unique vintage grey wooden frame with a linen slip.

  • The Harvest

    Sold

    SOLD

A very finely executed modernist painting of 4 farmers in an open agricultural field, harvesting lush crops of wheat.

The artist has confidently executed the work with bold and expressive brushstrokes, skilfully separating the sky, forest and field through different plains of earthy colours.

The painting is framed in a unique and characterful wood and gilt frame with an inner maroon velvet lining. The grain of the wood frame has purposefully been left exposed under the gilt coating, adding a wonderful effect.

Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A delicate oil depicting two female figures warming up in their dance studio. The composition of the painting is wonderfully balanced, and its palette features soft tones and creamy textures.  The artist has refrained from painting in too much detail, focusing instead on the lines and forms of the figures and the bars behind them.

    Size: 19.5 x 26 cm (including frame)

  • Pitchers

    Sold

    SOLD

Through its exploration of lines and generating and defining of shapes such as the curve, circles, angles and arabesque, this painting picks up on the style and ideas of the Movement paintings of British St Ives School artist Sir Terry Frost, who explored concepts around creating rhythm, counterpoint, interruption and repetition.

A wonderful visual vocabulary of bright primary colours, shapes, and movement transforms what would normally just be a group of mugs and pitchers, and has given them a life of their own.

The magic in this is that the artist has taken ordinary objects, and has looked at them in a way that has removed all preconceived notions of visual experience in order to open up the possibility of recreating and reimagining that defies reality. There is an openness to serious play with colour and shape. This painting is simple and surprisingly subtle, but very satisfying to look at, and to enjoy.

This lovely oil on board is in excellent vintage condition. The complementary frame as seen in the photos is included with the painting.

    Size: 36 x 36cm (including frame)

  • The Farmhouse

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

This post impressionistic painting is a fine example of the way in which an artist can celebrate the material properties of the medium of oil. Urgent, rough and bold brushstrokes are accentuated by thick, short, colourful, blocky bursts that add a sense of youthful energy. Here the artist has banished preconceived notions about object and colour from his or her mind (such as grass being just green), and has instead painted the colour hues and tones as seen in that particular moment in the natural light.

The ruggedness of the landscape is almost mimicked by the way the artist has applied the paint, where you can almost see the bristles of the brush and the heavy-handedness in the application, giving the painting a visual palpability.

The strong colours and brushwork are complemented by the robust greyish-green  mottled frame, within which the painting is housed. The painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition, with only very minor scuffing to the frame.

    Size: 54 x 72 cm (including frame)

  • In Bloom

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A beautiful and serene 20th century still life that displays a glimpse of a well-decorated home setting.

Jasmines are depicted in full bloom and growing out from a copper flower pot that has been placed at a corner of a living room. The artist has skillfully captured the reflection of this pot cast against the flooring, as well as the shadows of the flowers that have been cast on the wall

One is able to get a sense of the style of this home setting – as we see the light floral patterned curtains, and the colourful rug near it.

The artist has used  fine and soft brushstrokes to create a smooth and delicate effect to the work; and the earthy colour palette gives a soothing feel.

The painting is surrounded by a dark wooden frame with an inner gold window which suits it perfectly.

It is in excellent vintage condition.

  • Demoiselle

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

One of the most elegant pieces in our collection yet, this beautiful oil depicts a collection of intricately painted objects on what is most likely a lady’s dresser. It is painted such that the viewer is herself sitting at this very table, just about to catch herself in the reflection of the mirror.

A lady’s dresser is more than just a place to beautify oneself – it is a private space where she can take a moment to pause, reflect and unwind. Her collection of precious sentimental objects lay neatly before her, reminders of bygone days.

The mirror in the painting captures the reflection of the objects on the table, but stops short at the point where we would see our own reflection – a seemingly simple yet rather effective angle chosen by the artist.

Painted by Britt Bräckis Rosén, the oil painting is housed in a tasteful thin rounded gold frame. It is in excellent vintage condition with only some very minor scuffing to the frame.

    Size: 70 x 43 cm (including frame)

  • Prosper

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A beautiful and well-balanced still life that captured our hearts upon first sight.

Presented atop a table draped with a cloth is a well-decorated pitcher filled with red tulips and pussy willows, surrounded by 7 oranges and a small green bowl.

Very soft and precise brushstrokes have been used to create a delicate and realistic effect to the work, and there is calm fluency from one subject to the next.

The artist has wonderfully managed to capture the creases and folds in the table cloth, and the great play of colours and reflective shadowy effects in the oranges and flowers create a sense of three dimensionality in the work.

There is a strong focus of attention on the objects as its bold colours stand out in contrast to the background painted in beige with light pink undertones.

The painting is in excellent vintage condition. It comes well-presented in a thick gilt frame that has areas of paint loss.

    Size: 73 x 64 cm (including frame)

  • A Fresh Morning

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An excellently executed 20th century landscape artwork depicting a house tucked behind a stone wall, partially hidden by lush greenery and set against a clear blue sky.

In this work, the artist has skillfully used blocks of colours in contrasting shades to give rise to the various forms as such the trees and stone wall; and the selection of more than 8 different hues of vibrant green imbues the work with so much freshness.

With the use of visible painterly brushstrokes, one is able to get a sense of the natural beauty and rough nature of the limestone wall; and through the use of expressive brushstrokes executed in a diagonal manner to paint the greenery, one can get a sense of movement and freedom in this work, of the strong wind blowing in the air, causing the leaves to sway.

The work comes well-presented in a thin champagne gold frame, and is in excellent vintage condition.

    Size: 42.5 x 53 cm (including frame)

  • The Village

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

With its sandy desert tones and visually pleasing composition, this small painting has a wonderful mellowness to it.  This scene of one of the White Villages in Spain shows off the region’s old white lime walls and brown tiled roofs. In this region the climate is known to be mild, and the tones and hues used in this painting capture that mildness of this quiet village perfectly. To add interest, the artist has included a donkey cart and driver strolling casually along, about to make their way back into the village after a long day’s work.

This wonderful piece in oil is by Swedish artist Hans-Erik Öberg, painted in 1963. It is housed in a very well suited wood frame with a linen slip. The painting is in excellent condition, and there are minor scuffs to the frame.

    Size: 37.5 x 45.5cm (including frame)

  • Lambs

    Sold

    SOLD

An oil painting reminiscent of the famous expressionist works by Vincent Van Gogh, this Swedish oil bears striking colour, emphatic brushwork and contoured forms, telling a story with a paintbrush. The artist has used the impasto technique fervently, applying the paint thickly to the canvas so that it stands proud and creates a three-dimensional effect. Swirls of coloured paint lend a warm glow to this intimate night time scene.

This striking oil is painted on canvas on stretchers, and is framed in its original box frame which shows off its wood grain.

Painted in 1969, it remains in excellent vintage condition.

    Size: 39 x 47.5 cm (including frame)

  • Tulips

    Sold

    SOLD

This captivating still life in oil depicting tulips in a vase features bold colours, strong outlines, and lots of texture. Thick, creamy layers of oil paint have been applied generously by the artist, giving this painting a real tactility. Painted on a long vertical canvas with a very well balanced composition, our eyes are led from top to bottom. At first glace we notice the 6 upright blooms, but then our eyes are drawn downwards toward the one wilting flower, its soft stem forming a curved line that contrasts with the straighter angles of the other tulips and their leaves. The horseshoe reflection on the vase lead us down to the single pear that sits on the table –  the final punctuation in this wonderfully compositioned piece.

This original oil was painted in 1959. It is housed in a deep gilt frame with an inner moulding that is stained green and highlights the painting perfectly. There is a slight widening to the top right joint of the frame, but otherwise the painting and frame are in very good condition.

    Size: 75 x 43 cm (including frame)

  • The Piazza

    Sold

    SOLD

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore

A bustling and robust scene of a piazza set amidst buildings in an urban area.

The beauty of such a town square is that it encourages sociability and acts as a centre point for cultural life in the city.

The artist has managed to capture this essence so perfectly in this work, as this town square is so alive and buzzing with energy. Nightfall has set in, and a line-up of stalls are presented; people from all walks of life are coming together, socialising, checking out the interesting stalls, and taking a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Although the artist has chosen to use a darker colour palette to exemplify this night time scene, hints of orange have been used extensively to accentuate and highlight the distinct forms throughout the painting.

This mid 20th century painting is an original oil on canvas by female Swedish painter Gusty Olsson (1902 -1976), and is signed on the lower left.

The painting is presented in its original frame, which has some slight signs of ageing, more so to the upper edge. It is in good vintage condition overall.

An absolutely stunning mid 20th century oil painting of a female nude on a lounge chair in a reclined position.

The female figure is well-composed and has an air of confidence. Her hair is styled in a bun, without a single strand out of place. At work, she is a woman of power, and she has just returned home after a long day of negotiating deals, wanting to unwind.

The viewer is unable to make eye contact, as she is faced away gazing to the distance, and appears to be caught up in her thoughts, and not wishing to be interrupted.

Her body recognises that it is time to unwind and leave one’s worries behind, as she is sat in a relaxed manner – with her slender legs stretched out, and her hands laid across the arm rests.

It is signed and dated 1943 to the lower left, and is complemented by its gilt frame.

  • The Muse

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A really unique semi-abstract painting in oil of a muse posing for an artist. In this piece emphasis has been placed on lines and forms as opposed to realistic details. For example, a triangular plane of saturated yellow has been used to represent the light streaming from the lamp shade above the head of the artist. But this plane of yellow is also what creates perspective and depth in this picture, establishing the space between the artist and the muse. Rich colours of green, yellow and gold give this painting a resplendence, emphasised further by the gilt frame surrounding the painting.

Both painting and gilt frame are in excellent condition.
