    An engaging abstract composition by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas board and dated 2024.
    This painting has been created by responding to the colours of local landscapes through the seasons of the traditional Celtic Calendar.
    Hints of sun, breaking though showers of rain. Take a breath and welcome Ostara, with its delicate snowdrops, Narcissi in bright yellows jumping out against the dark evergreen pines and trees which have stood strong through winters icy cover.

    This acrylic on canvas board is framed within a ‘St Ives’ style white wooden frame to capture the complexity of the colours within. Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

    Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. Having lived by the English coastline and now residing within the countryside her work is often formed by ‘colour journeys’ a form of mapping the landscape through the emotive language of colour.

    An outstanding mid-century abstract composition depicting a coastal scene with boats, painted in oil onto canvas.

    The artwork embodies hints of cubism, with all realistic details omitted, emphasising a play of geometric shapes and colours.

    The artist has expertly deconstructed what we can discern to be a coastal scene with boats into blocks of contrasting colours that interlock with one another, creating a harmonious balance among them.

    The colour palette predominantly features rich reds, pale yellows, mellow whites and beige, and deep blacks, each block merging with the next through a process of layering that adds depth and interest to the composition.

    The use of these rich colours brings warmth and energy to the scene, while the unique blue outlines that trace the silhouettes of some blocks add a distinctive touch, drawing the eye to key elements of the composition.

    This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim black frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very minor scuffs.

    Reminiscent of the Modern British St Ives painter Ben Nicholson who was also fascinated with table top scenes, this composition features a real interest in cubist techniques. The artist here uses a still life composition of plates, mugs and a bottle on a table with a flattened perspective while still suggesting their three dimensional forms. This composition is executed in a warm colour palette, with a smooth finish.

    A large and very striking mid century modernist abstract composition, painted in oil onto canvas.

    Although largely abstract, we can just about discern a scene of several terraced houses. The artist has reduced this townscape scene into abstract forms and shapes, using contrasting colours to create a sense of depth within the composition. He has used a warm and rich palette of terracotta red, orange and black. The paint has been applied thickly, creating areas of impasto and texture throughout the composition.

    The painting is on stretched canvas and can be hung unframed. There is some scattered craquelure and general age wear that is commensurate with age, but the painting is stable and looks good overall.
