A large and very well executed mid century modernist abstract composition in oil, dated ’63.
This expressionist composition features broad, expressive, and gestural brushstrokes, giving us the sense that the artist was painting quite spontaneously. The palette is minimal, with a focus mostly on browns and blues. A myriad of shapes and planes of colour seems to combine effortlessly, including areas that have been marked out with the back of the paint brush, creating a sgraffito effect. A round shape sits just below the centre of the composition, creating a focal point for the viewers, with the expressive brushstrokes radiating out from it.
This large oil on canvas is framed in a very well suited simple wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
Size: 74 x 93.5 cm (including frame)
