  • Geometric Fun

    Geometric Fun

    Sold

    SOLD

A very unique original abstract artwork, made up of paper that has painted, embroidered and then stitched together.

The paper has been stitched to create a three dimensional form that is mounted onto board and protected behind glass. The paper has been painted with an abstract composition using acrylic paint, and each alternating strip has been painted with different colours. As a result, the artwork changes depending on the angle from which it is viewed. If viewed from the right, we see a geometric patterning of red, black and yellow. When viewed from the left, a series of angled lines criss-cross across the lighter coloured surface. Although it is technically a static piece, we have in fact a very dynamic artwork that changes constantly. The paper itself has also been embroidered with an intricate pattern which gives it textured detail, visible when viewed closely.

The artwork is presented in a black frame and protected behind glass. It is in very good condition. Ready to hang.

  • Grounded

    Grounded

    Sold

    SOLD

A wonderfully executed mid century modernist abstract composition in oil, painted onto canvas.

In this atmospheric composition, the artist has applied the paint thickly, creating lots of areas of impasto (where the paint stands proud from the surface) and variation in texture. Depicting what appears to be a rural landscape, the lower section of the painting has richer, earthier colours in broad sweeping brushstrokes . This juxtaposes against the lighter top half of the painting which has been painted in a mixture of white and lilac, with hints of blue underneath, alluding to the depth of layers within the painting.

There is a really earthy quality to the piece, and its abstract subject makes it an easy fit into most interiors.

The painting is housed in a silver leaf wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A bold and rhythmic composition mid-century modernist style painting that captures the essence of an abstracted landscape, painted in oil onto canvas.

His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

An engaging abstract composition by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto board and dated 2024.
Entitled Beltane, the painting encapsulates a season when colour starts to become abundant, where deep purples intertwine with sage greens. Though still muted, bright colours emerge. These colours are found in a garden at the start of its journey to full bloom.

This acrylic on canvas board is framed within a ‘St Ives’ style white wooden frame to capture the complexity of the colours within. Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

  • Boats on the Shore

    Boats on the Shore

    Sold

    SOLD

A rich and bold mid century modernist composition, painted in oil on board and dated 1952.

This painting depicts two stylised boats resting on a sandy shore, viewed from a slightly elevated angle. The hulls of the boats are painted in shades of green with dark horizontal bands, giving them a sculptural, almost abstract quality. They are surrounded by rounded, rock-like shapes in warm earth tones—rust, ochre, brown, and deep red—suggesting pebbles or boulders on a beach.

The background is composed of geometric patches of colour: the sandy shore in pale yellow, a soft blue-grey sky, and darker land masses or shadows in the distance. The boats’ exaggerated shapes and placement suggest a symbolic or decorative interpretation, rather than strict realism.

The painting carries a calm, grounded energy, blending modernist abstraction with the nostalgic imagery of coastal life. It emphasizes shape and colour harmony over fine detail, creating a dreamlike and contemplative atmosphere. The work feels both playful and meditative, inviting the viewer to interpret the scene in multiple ways.

This oil on board is housed in a very well made and complementary frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. There is some scuffing to the edges of the frame, but it is in good condition overall.

    Size: 43 x 51 cm (including frame)

  • Cafe Conversations

    Cafe Conversations

    SOLD

An energetic mid-century figurative painting where a lively cafe scene unfolds, executed in oil onto canvas.

In this vibrant composition, groups of figures gather around small tables, engaged in animated conversation and casual leisure. The composition is bustling yet intimate, capturing the social rhythm of everyday life. A standing figure in a dark suit and hat contrasts with seated patrons, while a background teeming with more guests adds depth and atmosphere.

The style is distinctly modernist, characterised by loose, expressive brushwork and bold, simplified forms. The artist has applied broad, confident strokes that blend and overlap, giving the scene a lively, almost improvisational energy.

The palette is rich and earthy, dominated by warm browns, cream, and flashes of yellow. Highlights of vibrant green add freshness and draw the eye across the composition. There’s a harmonious tension between structured figures and abstracted surroundings, creating a dynamic yet nostalgic portrayal of cafe culture.

The brushstrokes are thick and gestural, imparting a sense of immediacy and movement. Overall, the layers of colour and visible texture bring the canvas to life.

This oil on canvas is housed in complementary wood frame with an inner gilt window. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
