An expressive contemporary Cornish coastal abstraction painting, executed in oil on board and dated 2023.
Abstract in nature and titled ‘Hot Day at Prussia Cove’, the painting captures the essence of Prussia Cove, a secluded and rugged coastal area in Cornwall, on a sweltering summer’s day. The composition is a striking interplay of geometric forms and gestural marks, evoking the interplay of land, sea, and sky under the intensity of the sun.
Executed in a highly textural impasto style, the brushstrokes are thick and expressive, lending the work a tactile, almost sculptural quality. Areas of scraped-back paint reveal underlying layers, adding depth and a sense of weathered, organic movement reminiscent of the Cornish coastline.
The piece features a coastal-inspired palette dominated by cool blues, sandy beiges, and off-whites, contrasted with bold strokes of black and vibrant orange accents. These colours suggest the shimmering seawater, sunlit rocks, and other elements.

A compelling and emotive interior still life painting, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1989.
In this composition, the artist presents a loosely rendered interior scene suffused with mood and memory. A single red chair, boldly defined in the foreground, anchors the composition and draws the viewer’s gaze. Behind it, a soft turquoise table supports a glowing white pot, while indistinct shapes and brushstrokes in the background suggest an intimate room.
The style leans toward abstract expressionism with hints of figurative elements. Colours are layered in earthy tones – dusty reds, muddy browns, and muted teals – interrupted by flickers of yellow and white light that evoke a hazy, lived-in atmosphere.
The brushwork is gestural and textured, varying from thick strokes to smoother, blended sweeps, creating a dynamic tension between solidity and blur.
This atmospheric still life captures not just the objects themselves, but the emotional resonance of a quiet, familiar space.

A large, striking and very well balanced abstract composition, painted in oil with areas of collage.
This painting features a dynamic interplay of geometric shapes and layered textures, rendered in a muted, earthy palette with bursts of colour.
The dominant tones are cool greys and greens, softened with washes of white and dusty blue, punctuated by vibrant rusty oranges, ochres, and pale pinks. Angular shapes interlock and overlap, creating a sense of movement and fragmentation. There is a textural richness to the surface, likely from mixed media or layered paint application—some sections are soft and diffused, others sharp and defined.
The painting fits within the realm of modernist abstraction, echoing influences from Cubism and Abstract Expressionism. It evokes a sense of organic structure and emotional intensity, while remaining non-representational—there are no identifiable objects, allowing the viewer to explore form, space, and rhythm freely. The mood is contemplative and complex, suggesting inner tension or transformation.
This is a piece that invites close viewing and personal interpretation, offering new shapes and meanings the longer one looks.
The painting is presented in white tray frame, which suits it perfectly. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

An evocative mid-century interior painting that captures a quiet domestic study scene rendered with modernist abstraction, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1951.
The composition is centred around a modest writing desk set against a softly fragmented wall, flanked by a chair and a stool. Overhead shelves cradle books and papers, while a stylised pendant light and a cupboard with colour-blocked panels add architectural intrigue.
To the left, a vase of red tulips placed on a counter offers a splash of natural warmth, creating a gentle contrast with the cool, muted palette of mint greens, dusky blues, pale purples, and earthy brows.
Executed in a flattened style, the artist plays with skewed perspectives and overlapping planes, lending the work a sense of spatial ambiguity and quiet introspection. The brushwork is smooth yet deliberate, with soft transitions in the background and more defined lines around furniture and decor, enhancing the painting’s structured yet intimate atmosphere.

A brilliantly executed semi-abstract oil composition painted in by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.
Here we have a semi abstract composition of a man seated on a bench. Morsing has used a restrained palette- focusing mainly on blue, green, yellow and black. He has juxtaposed the lighter colours against the darker colours in order create depth and perspective within the composition. Realistic details have been intentionally left out, but we get a palpable sense that the figure is surrounded by trees and dappled light. Swift and expressionist brushstrokes have been applied to the canvas, giving this pieces its textured and painterly qualities.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in very good vintage condition. The frame has some light age wear.
Size: 45.5 x 41 m (including frame)

A whimsical and characterful mid-century naïve style street scene composition that captures the vibrant rhythm of daily life in a French village, painted in oil onto board.

Executed in a bold, expressive hand, the painting features flat planes of colour and simplified shapes, hallmarks of post-war European modernism. The palette is both earthy and joyful, with muted greens and blue punctuated by occasional splashes of red, yellow, and teal. Brushstrokes are thick and direct, lending the work a light tactile presence and raw immediacy.
This oil on board is housed in a very well-suited wood frame with an inner linen and gilt border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very minor scuffing.

A very large and striking 21st-century abstract geometric painting, executed in oil on canvas.
This mesmerising painting is composed entirely of triangular shapes arranged in a tight, grid-like pattern. The triangles are painted in a restricted but bold palette of black, dark brown, white, and a soft cream, which creates a strong visual rhythm and contrast across the canvas. There is a visual order but the subtle shifts in orientation and colour prevent it from becoming monotonous.
The stark contrast between deep browns, black, and crisp white creates strong visual impact, but the occasional soft cream triangle adds warmth and breaks the binary, giving the eye a place to rest.
From afar the painting looks clean, precise and monotone. But as you move toward it and study its intricacies, you begin to realise the range of colours and the visible brushstrokes, which further enhances the fact that this is indeed a hand painted piece with more subtle details that are not immediately obvious at first glance.
The restrained colour scheme enhances sophistication. It feels modern and timeless, making it versatile in a range of settings from minimalist homes to design-forward spaces.
This large oil on canvas is housed in a very well suited black frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some scuffing present.
Size: 80 x 120 cm (including frame)

A evocative mid-century figurative painting that presents a nude female figure reclining gracefully on a vibrant, patterned armchair, executed in oil onto board.
Her pose – one arm draped behind her head and eyes gently closed – suggests quiet introspection or rest, capturing a moment of serene vulnerability.
Executed with textural qualities, the artist has used thick, expressive brushstrokes that give the figure and background a tactile, almost sculptural presence. The style bridges post-impressionism and early modernist figuration, reminiscent of the School of Paris.
The palette is rich but softly muted: creamy flesh tones are offset by warm earth hues in the hair and chair, punctuated by bursts of red, green, and yellow on the floral upholstery. A cool grey-blue background provides a subtle contrast, enhancing the warmth of the figure’s form.
Overall, this piece speaks to the quiet power of stillness, rendered through a confident yet tender painterly hand.

A expressive and lively mid-century still life from 1958 that captures a vibrant arrangement of fruit and a pitcher set against a boldly abstracted interior, executed in oil onto board.
A pear, an apple, and sliced citrus rest on a geometric table surface, while a pale blue pitcher anchors the composition with sculptural solidity.
Rendered in confident, textured brushstrokes, the painting channels post-Impressionist and early Modernist sensibilities. The palette is rich and varied, blending warm yellows, earthy browns, and intense reds with cooler tones of turquoise and blues. Each hue is applied with visible, gestural strokes that lend the work a sense of immediacy and rhythm.
The background is an interplay of vertical and diagonal planes, suggestive of drapery or wall panels, contributing to the dynamic spatial ambiguity.
This oil on board is housed in a very well-suited wood frame. The painting has some craquelure present, but the paint layer is very stable overall. The frame has some paint losses, but this is in keeping with its vintage style.

A striking mid-century abstract painting that explores the structural rhythms of a harbour or port cityscape, rendered through a bold interplay of geometric forms and mirrored reflections, and executed in oil onto board.
Angular shapes and intersecting planes suggest industrial architecture – perhaps cranes and bridges – set against a waterfront backdrop. The lower half of the canvas evokes the surface of water, softly reflecting the rigid structures above.
Executed in thick, expressive brushstrokes, the artist has used a restrained yet dynamic palette of cool sea-blues, teal greens, soft greys, and sandy browns, punctuated by touches of deep navy and burnt orange. The paint is applied with a wide brush, producing a ridged texture that adds dimension and movement to the flattened forms.
Reminiscent of the modernist abstraction of the 1950s and 60s, the work captures the tension between nature and industry, fluidity and form – an evocative study in balance and reflection.

An engaging contemporary animal composition that captures the stoic presence of a black and white Hereford bull, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel by British artist Matt Rix.
The bull is set against a minimalistic backdrop of golden hills and a pale lavender-grey sky. The animal stands in full profile, its rounded form and serene expression exuding calm strength and quiet vigilance.
The painting’s style is firmly rooted in folk art traditions, with simplified forms, flat areas of colour, and a lack of perspectival depth that give it a timeless, almost storybook quality. The palette is subdued yet effective with colours that create a harmonious contrast, with touches of pink on the hooves and snout lending a touch of warmth.
Brushwork is smooth and deliberate, with clean, confident lines and solid fills, creating an overall sense of clarity and calm.
This oil on board is housed in unique green frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

The palette is earthy yet expressive – muted browns, mossy greens, and greys are punctuated by vivid blues and soft lavender. The use of flattened perspective and blocked-in colour fields is emblematic of modernist abstraction, while the brushwork is firm and intuitive, with visible strokes lending texture and movement to the otherwise serene setting.

Executed in a subdued palette of earthy and muted tones, the painting achieves a rich tonal harmony while emphasising contrast between light and dark. The angular planes and hard-edged abstraction suggest influences of Cubism and Modernist figuration, with geometric simplification shaping both figures and landscape.

A very engaging nautical whale scene, painted in a naïve style in oil onto canvas, by British artist Matt Rix.
This painting depicts a stylised sperm whale swimming through calm blue waters, with a black steamboat emitting dark smoke on the horizon. The whale is painted in a naïve folk art style, with exaggerated features like a massive rectangular head, curling tail, and a row of sharp, white teeth in a red mouth. The whale’s eye is small, white, and almond-shaped, giving it a slightly humorous, alert expression.
The composition is simple and clean, using flat areas of colour—blue for the sea, white for the sky, and black and red for the whale and ship. A striking mid-century geometric abstract painting that captures an intimate embrace between three figures, executed in oil onto canvas.
The painting is a wonderful representation of family, unity and protection.
Rendered in flattened planes and intersecting blocks of earthy tones, the composition reduces the human forms to a series of angular, overlapping shapes, evoking both geometric abstract and cubist influences. The figures are entwined in a moment of tender closeness, with a child nestled next to the female figure.
The artist has used a limited, harmonious palette: muted greens, rich browns, warm tans, and terracotta dominate the canvas. The colour blocking is methodical yet organic, suggesting warmth and intimacy through tonal contrast. Black outlines define the contours, giving clarity to the abstracted forms.
The brushstrokes have been largely concealed beneath the smooth, flat application of paint, emphasising the painting’s graphic quality and compositional balance.
This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary linen lined wood frame with an inner gilt window. The painting has a very tiny spot of paint loss along its upper edge as shown in close up, but is in very good condition otherwise. The frame has some discolouration on the right side of its linen border.

A romantic and emotive mid-century figurative landscape that captures a tender moment between a couple seated on a white bench amidst a lush garden setting executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1965.
The figures are rendered in broad, expressive strokes, with the woman in a light blue dress and the man in a dark suit, their bodies gently leaning toward one another in a quiet show of intimacy.
The scene is set against a dramatically painted backdrop – towering trees, a dusky sky, and a lake or body of water in the distance evoke a sense of twilight. The palette is rich and earthy: deep greens, stormy blues, muted pinks, and flashes of warm reds animate the landscape, while the brushwork is loose, textured, and instinctive, conveying both emotion and atmosphere.
The overall composition is balanced yet dynamic, with the figures grounding the work while the surroundings pulse with expressive energy.
A charming example of mid-century expressionist painting, this piece blends figuration and abstraction to capture the essence of a fleeting, intimate moment in nature.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner gilt window. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffing.
