A striking mid-century geometric abstract painting that captures an intimate embrace between three figures, executed in oil onto canvas.

The painting is a wonderful representation of family, unity and protection.

Rendered in flattened planes and intersecting blocks of earthy tones, the composition reduces the human forms to a series of angular, overlapping shapes, evoking both geometric abstract and cubist influences. The figures are entwined in a moment of tender closeness, with a child nestled next to the female figure.

The artist has used a limited, harmonious palette: muted greens, rich browns, warm tans, and terracotta dominate the canvas. The colour blocking is methodical yet organic, suggesting warmth and intimacy through tonal contrast. Black outlines define the contours, giving clarity to the abstracted forms.

The brushstrokes have been largely concealed beneath the smooth, flat application of paint, emphasising the painting’s graphic quality and compositional balance.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary linen lined wood frame with an inner gilt window. The painting has a very tiny spot of paint loss along its upper edge as shown in close up, but is in very good condition otherwise. The frame has some discolouration on the right side of its linen border.
