Courtyard Harvest

An expressive and naïve style mid-century figurative painting, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition captures a courtyard scene where a group of figures, dressed in dark clothing and wide-brimmed hats, are engaged in harvesting and transporting produce. Two trees with delicate red blossoms stand in the center, adding vibrancy to the composition, while a figure in blue pushes a wooden cart filled with fruit.

The painting is executed in a naïve or folk-art style, characterised by simplified forms, a lack of precise perspective, and a slightly flattened spatial composition. The figures are stylised, with minimal detail.

The artist has used loose, expressive brushstrokes with light texture, contributing to the painting’s lively and dynamic quality. 

This oil on board is housed in a complementary frame with an inner linen border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has very minor scuffing.
