A brilliantly executed semi-abstract modernist oil composition, painted in 1974 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum and Jönköping Museum.

Small yet impactful in its composition, the painting draws our attention to two figures with golf bags, set amidst a sprawling golf course with lush greenery. The artist’s deliberate omission of detailed features encourages viewers to focus on the overall atmospheric ambiance as opposed to their individual characteristics.

Painted in a semi-abstract style, there is a strong focus on expressive and textured brushstrokes, as well as rich colours. The use of painterly and dynamic brushstrokes create a sense of energy and movement throughout the painting, and the clever use of a rich colour palette dominated by various shades of greens and yellow with hints of blue helps to unify the composition and emphasise the beauty and lushness of the natural surroundings.

A brilliantly executed post impressionist portrait composition, painted in oil onto board.

Skilfully executed in non naturalistic colours, we see a bust of a male figure, painted in a stylised manner, with his features accentuated through the of saturated colour. The artist has used greens, blues and purples in the figure’s face, and added two circles of pink to indicate the cheeks. His nose is marked with a long line of yellow, outlined in red. These bold, thick outlines give the figure its stylised appearance, and adds so much character and playfulness to the portrait.

A small yet impactful landscape composition that evokes a serene atmosphere of Chartres in France, depicted at a distance under a soft, light yellow evening sky. Depicting a view of Fowey Quay in Cornwall, a quaint little sea town that clings along one steep side of the harbour. The artist has created lots of texture in this harbour scene, by building up collaged layers of paint and paper and sealing it with varnish, adding depth and interest to the composition. Elaine is inspired by the Cornish coastline, and her paintings wonderfully capture the character of the beautiful region.
