A very large 21st-century abstract painting that captures a rhythmic visual language of geometric forms and gestural marks, executed in oil on canvas.

At almost 1.2metres wide, this composition is set against a soft, muted sage green background, interwoven with an intricate network of white linear glyphs—some suggesting architectural schematics, others evoking primitive symbols or abstract cartography.

The artist has used a flat, matte surface treatment for the background, allowing the crisp white markings to emerge with clarity. The brushstrokes are confident and uniform, creating a sense of order amidst the apparent spontaneity. The overall style leans toward minimalistic abstraction, influenced by both modernist mark-making and contemporary urban semiotics.

This piece invites the viewer to decipher its quiet codes, encouraging contemplation of structure, language, and spatial memory.

  • Matrix (Very Large)

    Matrix (Very Large)

    Sold

    SOLD

A very large and striking 21st-century abstract geometric painting, executed in oil on canvas.

This mesmerising painting is composed entirely of triangular shapes arranged in a tight, grid-like pattern. The triangles are painted in a restricted but bold palette of black, dark brown, white, and a soft cream, which creates a strong visual rhythm and contrast across the canvas. There is a visual order but the subtle shifts in orientation and colour prevent it from becoming monotonous.

The stark contrast between deep browns, black, and crisp white creates strong visual impact, but the occasional soft cream triangle adds warmth and breaks the binary, giving the eye a place to rest.

From afar the painting looks clean, precise and monotone. But as you move toward it and study its intricacies, you begin to realise the range of colours and the visible brushstrokes, which further enhances the fact that this is indeed a hand painted piece with more subtle details that are not immediately obvious at first glance.

The restrained colour scheme enhances sophistication. It feels modern and timeless, making it versatile in a range of settings from minimalist homes to design-forward spaces.

This large oil on canvas is housed in a very well suited black frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some scuffing present.

    SOLD

A striking mid-century abstract figurative painting that captures a dynamic group scene with bold, expressive brushstrokes and a rich, layered composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

Abstract in nature, all realistic details have been omitted, and the figures, though loosely defined, appear to be engaged in a communal activity. Their forms are suggested rather than explicitly outlined, lending a sense of movement and depth to the composition.

Executed in a rich palette of blues, purple, light yellow, brown and black, the painting consists of a harmonious contrast of darker and lighter tones.

    Shoreline with Red Roof

    Sold

    SOLD

A large mid-century modernist landscape depicting a minimalist coastal scene rendered with bold, abstracted forms and expressive brushwork, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1950.

The scene is constructed from interlocking bands of earthy brown, olive green, slate blue, and creamy beige, suggesting sand, water, and distant terrain in an almost abstract arrangement. Thick, visible brushstrokes sweep across the surface, adding energy and rhythm to the otherwise still composition.

The artist’s modernist sensibility is evident in the stylised forms and reductive palette, which strip the landscape to its essential elements while retaining a strong sense of place. Solitude by the Sea

    Sold

    SOLD

A large and tranquil modernist figurative landscape that captures a quiet moment of introspection by the water’s edge, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1976.

In this evocative composition, a lone figure sits on a white chair beside a simple table, gazing toward the vast expanse of a blue sea. A delicate tree to the left stretches its light foliage across the scene, while gentle brushstrokes hint at distant waves and a faint sailboat on the horizon.

Painted in a soft, sun-drenched palette of blues, sandy orange, and muted purples, the work exudes a breezy Mediterranean atmosphere. The artist has used loose, expressive brushwork that balances impressionistic spontaneity with emotional subtlety. SOLD

A large and striking figurative composition in acrylic, executed onto stretched canvas and dated 2014 on the reverse.

This painting is a bold, minimalist representation of a standing figure, shown from the waist down. The figure wears a red skirt, blue coat or outer garment, and blue shoes with lighter blue uppers, and holds a brown walking stick, which adds a sense of balance the composition.

The style is flat and graphic, with solid blocks of colour and no shading or detail, creating a sense of modernist abstraction. The background consists of a light yellow wall, a mint green doorframe, and a warm ochre wooden floor with black lines indicating floorboards. This painting is a vibrant and structured cubist-style still life, featuring a table densely packed with musical instruments and domestic objects, rendered in flattened geometric forms and bold, contrasting colours.

At the centre is a large guitar, overlapping with a mandolin or lute, both abstracted into simplified, stylized shapes. Sold

    SOLD

A large and brilliantly executed mid century modernist figurative composition in oil, painted onto board by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

The composition captures an intimate scene of two figures, likely a mother and child or siblings, portrayed in a semi-abstract style. The figures are rendered with simplified, almost block-like forms, emphasising the connection between them rather than intricate details. One figure, dressed in a deep blue dress, cradles a dark form that resembles a small animal or a toy, while the other, smaller figure, appears to be reaching out or gesturing.

The painting balances representational elements with a geometric abstraction, and there is a focus is on shape, colour, and form, rather than realistic details.

    Sold

    SOLD

A very large abstract painting by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, executed in acrylic onto canvas and dated 2024.
This Ground I’ve Walked, I’ve Walked Before is a reflection of a known landscape for Frances – the distinct yellow fields and green hills of England in summer. The painting has a beautifully composed complimentary poem (see below), which talks about how places stick within your very being. You may walk through places you never have before and yet find and feel a very real connection to the place and it’s steeped history.
This ground I’ve walked, I’ve walked before. I know it’s oddities, it’s dangling limbs, It’s buried roots, it’s ancient trees. Oak, elder, pine, we are all friends. I breathe it’s forests, eyes closed, hands open. I soak in it’s seas and run down it’s hills. It’s rooted within me, a lived history within every new step. I know this ground, I’ve walked it before.’
Painted on stretched canvas and with its edges painted in soft yellow, it is beautifully presented in a white tray frame. The painting and the frame are in excellent condition. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. • In Motion

    In Motion

    Sold

    SOLD

A large and wonderfully textured abstract oil composition by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

Created with a masterful technique, the artist has skilfully employed broad gestural brushstrokes, applying layers of colours to build up texture and dimension to the work.

The artwork’s colour palette is dominated by black, white, blue, and hints of red, green, and yellow. Thick layers of paint create a sense of depth, with the black area strategically placed, giving weight to the composition. The surrounding blue and white colours provide a dynamic contrast, creating a well-balanced painting.

The textured surface, achieved through the impasto technique, adds a tactile quality to the painting, creating a visual feast for the eyes.

Close to a meter in height, this painting will make a statement piece in any interior.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary hessian lined frame. The painting has some areas of craquelure present due to thickness of the paint, but it is not immediately noticeable and the paint layer is very stable overall. The frame has some marks on its inner border.

  • Lyrical Abstraction

    Lyrical Abstraction

    Sold

    SOLD

A 20th century modernist abstract composition, painted in oil onto board.

This painting is reminiscent of the British Modern artist Peter Lanyon, who painted landscape both from many points of view, many visual perspectives, but also conceptually from different perspectives. Although it is unclear what this particular piece is inspired by (perhaps it not meant to be representative of anything at all!), it is clear that the artist is focused on the rhythm and meeting of forms. We see a mix of both harder and softer forms, built up in layers of colour, where lines and shapes meet and intersect on planes of colour behind it.

This oil on board is presented in  a wide walnut veneered frame that suits it well. Both the painting and frame are in good vintage condition, with some very minor wear to the frame  commensurate with age.

Free domestic (UK) shipping. As this artwork is very large, we may not be able to ship it internationally. If you are very interested and are located outside of the UK, please contact us and we will see what we can do.

    SOLD

A serene mid-century abstract landscape painting, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition features a prominent pink plot of land, that has been simplified into broad blocks of colour. Scattered trees are represented by green and blue geometric forms, contrasting with the pink terrain. The sky in the background is a solid blue, creating a serene atmosphere.

Abstract in nature, all realistic details have been omitted – only minimalistic shapes and layered contrasting shades, which add depth and intrigue to the scene.

The painter’s use of soft yet vibrant hues gives the composition a harmonious yet dynamic feeling, drawing attention to the interplay of colour and form.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary blue painted wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • The Library

    The Library

    Sold

    SOLD

A fantastic mid-century geometric abstract composition titled ‘The Library’, dated 1966 and painted in oil onto board.

The composition features a meticulous arrangement of rectangular shapes and lines, evoking the structured complexity of a library’s architecture.

The painting uses a palette of monochrome  tones, such as greys, whites, and browns, punctuated with vibrant pops of colour—reds, yellows, greens, and blues—that add energy to the otherwise subdued composition.

The work plays with balance and asymmetry, creating a sense of depth and spatial rhythm through its overlapping blocks and grids.

The precise lines and angles give the piece a dynamic yet controlled appearance, reminiscent of the orderly arrangement of bookshelves.

This large oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame painted black. The painting and frame have some marks and imperfections as shown in close ups.

  • Cubist Harbour

    Cubist Harbour

    Sold

    SOLD

A visually striking mid-century modernist composition of a harbour scene, painted in oil onto canvas.

A body of water occupies the middle ground of the canvas. Lining the water are numerous boats, their forms captured in black silhouettes that stand out against the restrained palette of blues and creams. In the foreground, the water’s edge is populated by shadowy figures of people, their silhouettes painted in the same muted black. The background is dominated by blocks of buildings outlined in bold black lines, further emphasising their structured, almost architectural quality.

Masterfully containing elements of geometric abstraction and cubism, the artist has skilfully reconstructed the scene down to geometric shapes in contrasting colours to demonstrate a sense of depth and interest to the painting.

The use of a restrained palette, primarily blues, blacks, with hints of creams, along with the bold outlines and smooth brushstrokes, creates a composition that is both cohesive and dynamic.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim wood frame. There is a light surface mark at the top right section of the painting, as well as a small area of paint loss at the top edge of the painting, as shown in photos. The frame has some age wear and scuffing.

  • Houses at Dusk

    Houses at Dusk

    Sold

    SOLD

A large moody and atmospheric modernist-style landscape painting, executed in oil onto board.

Long and narrow in format, the composition features a pathway that stretches from the foreground into the distance, guiding the eye towards farmhouses in the distance. Beyond the houses, we can get a slight glimpse of a coast, against the soft greyish-blue sky at dusk.

The style of the painting is typically modernist in ethos, as the artist has skilfully deconstructed the scene down to blocks of contrasting colours, to demonstrate a sense of depth and dimension.

The use of a moody earthy palette imbues the scene with a nostalgic feel, while the swift and expressive brushstrokes add a wonderful textural quality.

Being narrow and running close to a meter in length, the painting’s size would make it the perfect addition above a bed or sofa.

This oil on board is housed in an attractive linen-lined frame with multiple windows. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

The artist has taken a geometric approach this painting, using the forms of the white buildings outlined in black to build depth and perspective. A number of figures can be see in the forefront by a door, painted in striking blues and reds which stand out against the stark white structures. Juxtaposed against the sharped edged rectangular the buildings are curved green mounds that represent bushes or trees. They lend a softness to the painting and balance out the composition wonderfully. This scene is set against a lovely blue sky which gives the painting a feeling of calm and peacefulness.

This large oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen border. The painting has some light marks, as well as some minor paint loss at its outermost edges due to the frame that are only noticeable very upon close inspection. The frame has some marks.
