A calm and delicate mid century winter landscape composition, executed in oil onto board.
The painting depicts a scenic view of a river flowing through a snow covered forest lined with birch trees. Flowing into the distance, the river leads our eyes to the background of the painting, where a horizontal row of darker colours alludes to the woods stretching out far into the distance.
The artist has used short and painterly brushstrokes that have a beautiful light texture, and there is an overall softness to the piece created through the use of muted pastel colours including shades of beige, green and purple.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary frame with a wide woven outer border, and inner linen border. There is some age toning to the inner linen border, but overall both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
