A brilliant abstract still life oil composition of daffodils, by contemporary British artist Ian Mood.
Ian has an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York.
In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh).
Ian is a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Society Of Staffordshire Artists and the Artist Association of Nantucket (USA) where he regularly lectures as part of their summer arts programme. He was awarded the Artists Association of Nantucket Frank Swift Chase Plein Air Award in 2014.
Ian grew up in Stoke on Trent and studied Fine Art at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

An intriguing and very confidently executed large oil on canvas, painted in 1987 by female Swedish artist Marianne Kanter, who monogram can be seen in the top left corner.
On first glance the painting seems almost voyeuristic – we see the backs of two men staring at the undressed female figure. As we take the time to study the painting, in particular the female figure, we begin to notice her expression – she stares directly at us with an enigmatic gaze, completely aware of her position in the room and the attention she holds, both from us as well as the male figures we see. Her confidence is unmissable. Notably, the painting is by a female artist (Marianne Kanter). Could it be that this painting was a comment on the ‘male gaze’, a term coined a few years before in the 70s? We might never know the answer for sure, but it certainly makes the painting a beguiling and intriguing one.

An outstanding mid-century composition, executed in oil onto board.
The painting depicts a magnificent view of a majestic southern building, and a figure that punctuates the foreground of the work.
The artist has used a restrained palette comprising shades of blue and white, focusing instead on the juxtaposition of light and dark as well as the layering of these shades. These contrasting tones as well as visible brush marks give this painting its depth and interest. The artist has also applied thin layers of oil to the hardboard, giving the painting an even matte finish.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary wooden frame with a wide linen border. The frame has some scuffing to the edges but the appearance is still very good. The painting is in excellent vintage condition.
