    SOLD

A mid century modernist landscape composition in oil, painted onto board and dated 1958.

This painting is a minimalist landscape, capturing a solitary figure walking down a wide, pale path—possibly a country road—toward a low horizon.

The solitary figure, painted in dark tones, is central and walking away from the viewer, creating a sense of distance, journey, or introspection. The path is a broad, almost white expanse that dominates the foreground and narrows toward the horizon, drawing the eye into the depth of the scene. On either side of the path, blocks of green fields and light brown earth subtly divide the composition. The horizon line is low, with a few small, dark farm buildings or trees silhouetted against a pale blue-grey sky.

    SOLD

A small and engaging portrait composition , painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting is a folk-art style portrait of a woman wearing traditional Welsh attire, set against a solid, dark grey background. The composition is simple and symmetrical, with the subject facing forward.

Her face is simply rendered with almond-shaped eyes, a small nose, and neutral lips. She has a composed, almost stoic expression with neatly parted brown hair visible under the bonnet.

This piece is a charming, minimalist portrait that captures a sense of quiet dignity and historical reference. Its simplicity and stylisation give it a timeless quality, making it feel both decorative and narrative.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

    Sold

    SOLD

A minimalistic and atmospheric mid-century oil painting that presents a serene landscape scene with a row of loosely defined trees standing against a muted sky, possibly near a body of water.

  • Whispers of Autumn

    Whispers of Autumn

    Sold

    SOLD.

A mid-century abstract landscape painting that captures the essence of a fleeting autumn moment through expressive, bold brushstrokes and a rich, earthy colour palette, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1963.

The composition centres on a striking, stylized tree with vibrant orange foliage, leaning slightly as if swayed by the wind. The background features deep green and muted brown hues, creating a sense of depth and grounding the scene in a natural setting. A hint of light cream in the centre suggests sunlight filtering through the foliage, adding a subtle glow.

The artist has used loose, expressive brushstrokes that give the painting a dynamic and raw quality. The juxtaposition of vibrant orange against deep forest greens evokes a sense of contrast between movement and stillness, warmth and tranquillity. The use of muted earth tones in the foreground and background enhances the natural, organic feel of the composition, while the layered application of paint gives it depth.

The painting’s abstracted form and expressive colour choices reflect a contemplative interpretation of the landscape, focusing on mood and atmosphere rather than realistic details.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary silver leaf wood frame. There is some v slight wear to bottom edge of canvas, but the painting is in good condition overall. There are some losses to the silver leaf on the frame, as shown.
