  • Nocturne Sail

    Nocturne Sail

    Sold

    SOLD

An atmospheric mid-century geometric abstract painting that deconstructs the essence of a boat at sea into bold, angular planes and tonal contrasts, executed in oil onto canvas.

Modernist in its ethos, the vessel appears anchored in a moody, segmented seascape rendered through a palette of smoky greys, deep charcoals, ivory, and earthy browns. The composition is structured with deliberate symmetry, as overlapping triangular forms evoke sails and hull, captured at rest under an overcast sky.

The brushwork is dense and expressive, with thick, textured impasto strokes building surface tension and drama. Each section of the painting – sky, water, boat – remains distinct yet integrated within a grid-like framework, showcasing the artist’s mastery of form and abstraction. Minimalist yet deeply evocative, the painting invites quiet reflection on solitude, structure, and the sea.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary white-painted wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Old English Game Fowl in Black

Old English Game Fowl in Black

    Sold

    SOLD.

A small and engaging animal composition, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting depicts a stylized game bird, standing in profile with a strong and elegant stance. The bird’s plumage is rendered in warm earthy tones, including shades of cream, rust red, and deep brown, creating a visually striking contrast. Its head is sharply defined, with a black beak, a red eye patch, and a piercing gaze that gives it a sense of alertness.

The bird’s legs and talons are bright yellow and its tail feathers are elegantly fanned out in a light cream colour, adding a delicate touch to its otherwise bold appearance.

The background is minimalistic and textured, with a soft, muted beige sky fading into a dark, earthy brown ground, keeping the focus on the central figure.

The artwork is framed in a rustic black wooden frame, which complements the bird’s features and enhances its traditional, handcrafted feel. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor scuffing.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A very large 21st-century abstract painting that captures a rhythmic visual language of geometric forms and gestural marks, executed in oil on canvas.

At almost 1.2metres wide, this composition is set against a soft, muted sage green background, interwoven with an intricate network of white linear glyphs—some suggesting architectural schematics, others evoking primitive symbols or abstract cartography.

The artist has used a flat, matte surface treatment for the background, allowing the crisp white markings to emerge with clarity. The brushstrokes are confident and uniform, creating a sense of order amidst the apparent spontaneity. The overall style leans toward minimalistic abstraction, influenced by both modernist mark-making and contemporary urban semiotics.

This piece invites the viewer to decipher its quiet codes, encouraging contemplation of structure, language, and spatial memory.

This large oil on canvas is housed in a complementary and well made light wood tray frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

  • Form & Field (Set of 2)

Form & Field (Set of 2)

    Sold

    SOLD

A striking mid-century set of abstract paintings that presents a dynamic exploration of geometry, movement, and texture, executed in oil onto board.

One panel is anchored by overlapping arch forms that slice through fields of green and magenta, intersected by rectilinear blocks in turquoise, purple, and orange. The other panel contrasts this with an organic constellation of amoeba-like shapes in plum, teal, and periwinkle, suspended over a rich patchwork of angled planes.

Rendered in a meticulous crosshatch technique, the surface of each panel vibrates with energy. The artist has used fine, directional brushstrokes to build a complex tactile field, imbuing the composition with a sense of movement and dimensionality. The colour palette is both earthy and vibrant.

Together, the panels evoke the duality of logic and intuition, with the left panel leaning toward structured geometry and the right into fluid abstraction, making this set a compelling addition to any art collection.

These oils on board come as a pair, and are each housed in a complementary wood frame. Both paintings and frames are in excellent vintage condition.

Size of each painting: 42 x 31.5 cm (including frame)

    SOLD

A bold and brilliantly executed mid-century modern painting that presents an abstracted interpretation of architectural forms or structures, executed in oil onto paper and framed behind glass.

The composition is dominated by two geometric figures, reminiscent of houses or buildings, rendered in an intersecting grid of warm earthy tone of burnt orange and deep brown  – accented with bold strokes of cobalt blue and black outlines.  The background is divided into muted blocks of black, grey, and off-white, grounding the figures in a minimal yet evocative setting.

The style is distinctly abstract, drawing influences from Cubism, with an emphasis on geometric fragmentation and balance. The brushstrokes are deliberate and textured, with visible layering that adds depth and richness to the composition. The interplay of sharp angles and curved segments within the forms creates a dynamic contrast, inviting the viewer to interpret the spatial relationships and underlying forms.

This oil painted on card is framed behind glass, and is presented within a card mount. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has minor scuffing.

  • Geometric Collage in Raw Umber

    Geometric Collage in Raw Umber

    Sold

    SOLD

A very unique original artwork by British artist Dave Boyd, constructed from discarded books (repurposed cloth covers, papers, cardboard, binding boards) mounted on a wooden panel in a solid wood float frame.

The background is composed of a richly textured, raw umber surface made from aged book cloth, divided horizontally at its midpoint, enhancing the piece’s sense of structure and symmetry. The material bears the worn, mottled patina of time, evoking a tactile warmth and nostalgic depth.

Centrally placed is a vertical arrangement of nine small rectangles, each made from a different swatch of book cloth. These blocks vary in hue—soft blues, warm reds, ochres, deep burgundy, and neutral beige—and are carefully aligned to form a grid-like column. Their tight geometry contrasts with the organic wear of the background, creating visual tension and balance.

The artwork is presented in wood frame that suits it very well. It has been constructed with professional grade adhesive and is shipped with robust fixings, ready to hang, Both artwork and frame are in excellent condition.

Dave’s artistic practice focuses on the juxtaposition between the manmade and the natural and the human experience of geometric forms, surfaces and materials. Paintings and collages often embody a built or constructed aesthetic and are strongly influenced by architecture and the built environment, with the aim of suggesting visual encounters with structures and landscapes. Utilising and repurposing materials,  with a focus on minimal composition, surface and colour, Dave’s work seek to utilise the subtle marks inherent in objects that have been used and handled over many years.

  • Geometric Street

    Geometric Street

    Sold

    SOLD

An evocative mid-century modernist composition that presents a stylised street scene rendered in bold geometric forms and a muted yet richly tonal palette, executed in oil onto board.

Clustered angular buildings are set against a flattened, near-monochrome sky. The artist has used sharp contour lines and sculptural blocks of colour to abstract the rural environment into a rhythmic interplay of shapes.

The palette is dominated by muted browns, dusty greys, charcoal, and olive green, punctuated with subtle brick-red and off-white accents. The expressive, deliberate brushstrokes reveal a textured surface, while the edges of forms are outlined in dark pigment, heightening the structural effect and anchoring the composition with a graphic solidity.

This oil on board is housed in a distressed wood frame. The painting has an area of paint loss at the middle of its top edge. The frame has areas of wear as shown.
