A very atmospheric contemporary abstract composition, painted onto canvas by British artist Nicky Knill Jones.

The painting captures the serene, meditative quality of a wide, open coastal scene. Soft brushstrokes and a muted palette of pale blues, greys, and sandy beiges evoke the stillness of a tidal flat or beach at low tide, where sea and sky blend almost imperceptibly on the horizon.

The composition is horizontal and spacious, with distant, darkened headlands framing the scene and guiding the viewer’s eye gently toward the center. The foreground is rendered in translucent layers, suggesting wet sand and shallow pools reflecting the soft light above. There is a sense of vastness and calm, where time seems suspended.

Overall, the painting conveys peaceful solitude and the quiet grandeur of nature, using minimal detail and harmonious tones to evoke a deeply contemplative atmosphere.

This painting is beautifully presented in a white tray frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

A very atmospheric and expressive costal composition, painted onto  canvas by British artist Nicky Knill Jones.

The painting captures a serene and intimate stretch of coastline, where a rugged cliff descends into a secluded bay. The composition leads the viewer’s eye from the grassy, windswept foreground down to the white surf curling against the rocks, and out across the vivid turquoise sea.

The brushwork is loose and expressive, giving movement to the sea and texture to the land. Shades of teal, sea green, and cobalt blue dominate the palette, evoking freshness and clarity, while subtle earthy tones add contrast and depth to the coastal terrain.

The painting evokes a sense of discovery and peaceful isolation, as though stumbling upon a quiet, unspoiled corner of nature. It’s a contemplative, windswept scene that invites viewers to pause and take in the rhythm of the sea.

This painting is beautifully presented in a white tray frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

A small and very impactful mid-century figurative painting that captures a serene moment by the sea, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1976.

The composition features two figures set against a vast, tranquil backdrop of sky and ocean. The central figure, dressed in a flowing white garment, carries a patterned bag, exuding a sense of calm and contemplation. A smaller figure, rendered in lighter hues, walks nearby, emphasising a sense of companionship or familial connection.

The painting’s style is distinctly modernist, characterised by minimalistic forms and a textured, almost naïve approach to rendering figures. The use of a muted, pastel colour palette – predominantly soft blues, whites, and sandy beiges – enhances the ethereal quality of the piece.

The brushstrokes are loose and expressive, with visible texture and layering, imparting a sense of movement to the otherwise quiet scene.

This oil on canvas is creatively housed in a white painted rustic wood frame. The painting is in good vintage condition. There  is some age wear to backing frame panel but this is in keeping with its style.

A dynamic yet serene mid-century modernist coastal landscape painting, executed in oil onto board.

The composition captures a tranquil seascape with a bold yet abstracted and simplified approach. A vivid blue sky stretches above a deep azure ocean, with small landmasses appearing in the distance. The foreground presents rocky terrain with dynamic, gestural strokes of earthy tones—rich browns, and hints of purple and white—contrasting with the bright greens of greenery.

Executed in a modernist style, the painting embraces expressive and slightly abstracted forms rather than realistic details. The colours are vibrant, with a strong emphasis on blues and greens, juxtaposed against warmer, muted earth tones. The brushwork is loose, gestural, and confident, with visible, textured strokes adding movement and depth to the composition. The sky exhibits smooth, blended transitions, while the land and sea are defined by more spontaneous, energetic marks, reflecting the raw beauty of a windswept coastal environment.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner gilt window. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A unique abstract monotype by contemporary British artist Frances Daws, dated 2022 and beautifully presented in a white card mount and framed behind glass.

Into the wild is a monotype which creates a sense of a stormy sea, using chine-collé against the black ink. This was made using dampened paper and etching ink, whilst the lokta paper for the chine-collé  attached using a rice paste as it is rolled with the plate through the press. This process has given the monotype great depth and texture.

  • Still Shores

    SOLD

A serene and minimalist modernist style coastal landscape oil painting dated 1972, by Swedish artist Eric Elfvén (1921–2008), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Jönköping Museum, Borås Art Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Small in size yet impactful, the composition captures the quiet harmony between land, sea, and sky in a distilled coastal scene. The composition is divided horizontally, with a cool expanse of pale blue water occupying the lower half, gently meeting a strip of muted earth tones – browns and greens – that represent a distant, tree-lined coast. Rounded, blocky foliage punctuates the landscape, offering visual rhythm and balance.

Executed with flat planes of colour and simplified shapes, the style reflects mid-century modernist sensibilities — favouring form and mood over detail. The brushwork is smooth and restrained, emphasising the clean geometry of the scene and lending it a meditative stillness.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor scuffing but is in good condition overall.

  • Naval Steamship

    SOLD

A very characterful naval steamship composition, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting depicts a historic steam-powered paddle ship sailing on calm blue waters under a soft, muted sky. The ship is painted in a folk art style, with simplified forms and a restrained colour palette dominated by black, beige, and soft blues.

A small red flag with a Union Jack in the corner is flown at the stern, suggesting that this ship may be of British origin. Thin black lines illustrate the ship’s rigging, adding to its structured appearance.

The sky is painted in soft, washed-out tones of beige and pale blue, giving the scene a weathered, vintage aesthetic. A few wispy clouds add depth, while the sea is a flat, uniform blue, reinforcing the folk art style’s simplicity.

Presented in a thin gilt frame, the painting has a nautical, old-world charm. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor scuffing but this is in keeping with its vintage style.

  • River Walk

    River Walk

    Sold

    SOLD

A serene and atmospheric mid-century semi-abstract composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

A body of water fills the foreground of the painting, serving as a mirror as it reflects the fragmented, impressionistic forms of the city and indistinct figures along its edge. The water’s surface is painted with loose, sweeping brushstrokes, creating a sense of movement and fluidity.

In the middle ground, two indistinct figures traverse towards a bridge. In the background, the cityscape and foliage fill the canvas, their forms abstracted and simplified down into geometric shapes and overlapping forms.

The overall mood of the painting is contemplative – brought forth through the use of a soft and subdued muted colour palette as well as loose and expressive brushwork that evoke a sense of nostalgia.

This small but very effective oil on canvas is housed in a deep profile dark blue-grey frame with an inner silver border. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A striking harbour town scene, painted in mixed media onto board, by British artist Elaine Allender.

Depicting a view of Fowey Quay in Cornwall, a quaint little sea town that clings along one steep side of the harbour. The artist has created lots of texture in this harbour scene, by building up collaged layers of paint and paper and sealing it with varnish, adding depth and interest to the composition. Elaine is inspired by the Cornish coastline, and her paintings wonderfully capture the character of the beautiful region.

This painting is housed in a white wooden frame that draws the eye inward towards the painting due to its deep profile. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.
