    SOLD

A brilliantly executed contemporary abstract composition, executed in acrylic onto canvas, by British artist Frances Daws.

Stormy Mountains is a modern landscape which captures both the drama and serenity of the open horizon. The strong gestural brushstrokes suggests a landscape of rolling hills, or sand dunes while the warm earthy tones bring about a sense of depth and movement, contrasting with the cool, blue and grey sky.

Whilst under the understanding this is an imagined landscape it invites the viewer to slow down and draw on their own memories of place.

Both the painting and frame are in excellent condition. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and signature on the reverse.

Frances Daws is a British Artist working in the Southwest of England. Primarily a painter she also works within printmaking. Having lived by the English coastline and now residing within the countryside her work is often formed by ‘colour journeys’ a form of mapping the landscape through the emotive language of colour.

A large, serene and light-filled mid-century coastal scene viewed from an open window,  painted in oil onto canvas.

This tranquil painting invites the viewer into a sunlit summer morning by the sea. The composition is framed by delicate, sheer curtains billowing gently inward, softening the transition between interior and exterior. Beyond the window lies a lush garden bursting with violet blue delphiniums and pale pink blooms, leading the eye toward a sparkling expanse of ocean where the sun casts a gentle shimmer across the water.

Rendered in a soft, lyrical mid-century style, the palette is dominated by airy whites, fresh greens, pastel blues, and gentle pinks, creating a sense of calm and effortless charm. Still Life with Mountain View

    £550

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

An evocative mid-century still life that presents a quiet interior moment set against a distant landscape,  painted in oil onto board.

In the foreground, a tabletop arrangement of fruit: a crescent slice of watermelon, a rounded green melon, and a dark plum sits alongside a simple tumbler, all positioned before an open window with shuttered sides. Beyond the window, a sparse rural scene unfolds: whitewashed buildings, rolling fields, and softly contoured mountains receding into a muted horizon. The composition gently balances interior intimacy with exterior openness, inviting the viewer to linger between the domestic and the expansive.

Stylistically, the work reflects classic mid-century modern sensibilities: simplified forms, flattened perspective, and a deliberate restraint in detail. The palette is calm and earthy – dusty greys, sage and olive greens, soft blues, and chalky whites – punctuated by the gentle blush pink of the watermelon flesh, which acts as a subtle focal point. Darker tones around the window frame and tabletop anchor the composition and create a sense of enclosure.

The brushwork is expressive yet controlled. Broad, matte strokes define planes and objects, while visible brush marks lend the surface a tactile, painterly quality. Edges are softly articulated rather than sharply drawn, contributing to the work’s contemplative mood.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner linen lining. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs.

    House Beyond the Green

    £435

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A quiet and serene mid-century landscape composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

The painting presents a small white house that sits partially hidden within dense, verdant foliage. Set back from the viewer and framed by trees, the dwelling feels both secluded and gently anchored to its surroundings. A band of water runs horizontally through the middle ground, separating the lush greens above from the warmer, earth-toned foreground, creating a subtle sense of depth and balance.

The style is distinctly mid-century in its simplification of forms and emphasis on mood over detail. Architectural elements are reduced to essential shapes, while the landscape is expressed through broad planes of colour rather than precise delineation. The composition feels calm and introspective, inviting the viewer to linger in the stillness of the scene.

The palette is rich yet harmonious: layered greens dominate the canvas, ranging from deep forest tones to lighter, almost luminous grassy hues. These are contrasted by a soft blue sky and water, which cool the composition, and a striking foreground of burnt orange and rust tones that adds warmth and visual weight.

Brushstrokes are loose and painterly, with visible texture throughout. The artist uses confident, gestural strokes to suggest foliage and ground, allowing colours to blend organically at their edges. This tactile surface quality enhances the sense of atmosphere and reinforces the painting’s expressive, mid-century character.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary silver frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

A serene and elegant mid-century modernist landscape painting that presents a beautifully abstracted and minimalist landscape dominated by a solitary windmill perched on a hillside, executed in oil onto board.

The composition is built from simplified geometric forms that evoke steppe d stone terraces or clustered hillside structures, leading the eye upward toward the windmill’s delicate, linear blades. The artist has reduced the scene to its essential shapes, creating a quietly architectural interpretation of a landscape.

An evocative mid-century modernist landscape scene with figure, executed in oil onto canvas.

This painting captures a solitary figure standing before a quiet winter landscape as an orange sun dips low against a muted sky. The composition is distilled into simplified geometric forms: angular rooftops, rounded treetops, and broad planes of snow – creating a serene yet contemplative atmosphere.

Rendered in cool tones of slate blue, charcoal, dove grey and icy white, the palette is beautifully punctuated by the warm, amber glow of the setting sun. The artist has used confident, stylised brushstrokes, outlining forms with inky, expressive lines that lend the scene a graphic clarity. SOLD

A dynamic mid-century abstract painting characterised by bold shapes, layered textures, and a rhythmic interplay of form and colour, executed in oil onto canvas by the established Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.

The composition is built from intersecting blocks and curved segments, suggesting movement and an underlying figurative tension while remaining firmly non-representational.

Executed in a robust modernist style, the work embraces the era’s embrace of spontaneity and materiality. The palette features earthy orange, muted greys, olive green, off-white, deep charcoal and small flashes of cobalt blue, brick red, and sunny yellow, creating a grounded yet energetic contrast. Thick, tactile impasto passages bring a sculptural quality to the surface, where dragged strokes, textured ridges, and deliberate scoring reveal the artist’s physical engagement with the medium.

Overall, the painting exudes strength and mid-century sophistication – a striking statement piece that celebrates form, texture, and movement.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary black painted wood frame. There is a small perforation to the canvas  as shown in the photos ( this is only visible from the back, and not from the front), but it remains stable and does not detract from the work’s overall attractiveness.

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A small yet very effective charming landscape painting that captures a quiet outdoor terrace set against the gentle shimmer of a lakeside horizon, executed in oil onto board and dated 1981.

At the centre, a white table and chairs sit bathed in warm afternoon light, their forms softened and abstracted by expressive painterly strokes. Surrounding them, lush trees and shrubs frame the scene, creating a sense of intimate seclusion with just a glimpse of the expansive water beyond.

The composition blends representational elements with looser, gestural abstraction. A compelling abstract landscape with figure oil composition, painted in 1961 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

The painting captures a quiet moment of communal gathering in what appears to be a sun-drenched desert setting. A group of robed figures, seated in a loose circle, are rendered in simplified forms that emphasise posture and gesture rather than facial detail – inviting the viewer to focus on atmosphere and collective presence over individual identity.

The style is modernist and pared-back, with strong influences of mid-century abstraction. The artist distils the scene into broad planes of colour: a soft blue sky meeting a warm band of yellow horizon, and earthy tones of russet, sand and umber defining the ground. The figures themselves appear as sculptural blocks of white, cream, black and deep brown, forming a rhythmic arrangement across the composition.

Brushstrokes are thick, confident, and deliberately visible, with the paint applied in textured swathes that give the work a grounded, tactile quality. The artist’s expressive technique conveys a sense of stillness and the intimate social rituals of desert life.

A charming and picturesque mid-century landscape that captures a quiet cluster of houses nestled within rolling green fields, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1963.

The composition centres around a small hamlet, its simple geometric forms distilled into blocks of colour: red and blue rooftops, creamy white façades, and deep green foliage. A single tree rises from the village centre, its broad, dark crown creating a natural focal point amid the surrounding patchwork of shapes.

Rendered in a distinctly modernist style, the painting embraces simplification and abstraction, reducing the landscape into harmonious, interlocking planes. An atmospheric mid-century landscape that presents a sweeping, almost abstracted view of land meeting sky,  executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition is defined by a broad diagonal plane that draws the viewer’s eye into the distance, suggesting an open field or coastal terrain softened by mist. The forms are intentionally understated, allowing mood and atmosphere to take precedence over literal detail.

Painterly and expressive in style, the work leans toward modernist abstraction while still conveying a sense of place. The artist uses minimal definition, instead relying on tonal shifts and layered colour to evoke depth and quiet movement. The result is a calm, contemplative image imbued with a quintessential mid-century sensibility.

The palette is beautifully muted, composed of warm yellows, earthy browns, and deep moss greens that gradually transition into soft blue-greens, misty greys, and a luminous off-white sky. These colours blend seamlessly, creating the impression of early morning light or distant haze dissolving into the horizon.

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

This 1972 textile artwork is a charming and vibrant handwoven tapestry that captures a stylised pastoral scene with a distinctly mid-century folk-art feel.

At the forefront, a small group of white geese with orange beaks and feet stand together on patterned ground rendered in blocks of green, orange, grey, and ochre. Behind them, a traditional half-timbered thatched cottage is depicted in a highly geometric and simplified way—its yellow roof and blue-paned windows contrasting sharply against a bright cobalt-blue sky filled with rhythmic vertical strokes.

The composition is bordered by a narrow red frame and set against a neutral linen backing, giving it a crisp and contained presentation. The overall design is bold yet playful, with an emphasis on pattern, symmetry, and texture rather than realism.

Typical of the 1970s Scandinavian and Northern European textile aesthetic, this piece blends warmth and modernity—balancing homely rural imagery with strong graphic abstraction. The craftsmanship, use of colour blocking, and tactile quality of the woven surface all contribute to its charmingly naive yet sophisticated appeal.

This vintage tapestry remains in very good condition. It is mounted onto fabric lined board, and is ready to hang. The needlepoint is very slightly irregular, which is typical for handmade or traditionally textile pieces, adding to its authenticity and charm.

An elegant pair of minimalist landscapes, dated 1985, that captures the serene beauty of open land under a soft rose-tinted sky, and executed in oil onto canvas.

The two compositions are designed to complement each other: one showing a gentle line of birch trees standing in rhythmic formation, the other depicting a quiet rise with a few slender trunks and a simple wire fence stretching across the horizon.

The artist has used a restrained modernist palette of blush pink, misty grey, and muted greens, allowing atmosphere and tone to take centre stage. The brushwork is delicate and deliberate – light dabs and soft stippling define the foliage, while smooth gradients create a sense of still air and fading distance.

Together, the pair evokes a dreamlike calm: a moment of dusk or dawn frozen in time, and would bring a refined sense of balance and tranquillity to any space.

These oil on canvases are housed in complementary silver and black frames. There are some light marks near the tops and bottoms of each work, consistent with age and display. The frames have some light wear and scuffing, though this does little to detract from the overall elegance of the pair.

Size of each artwork: 59 x 51.5 cm (including frame)

A bright and serene mid-century still life that captures a cluster of orange daylilies basking in sunlight, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1955.

The artist captures a fleeting, luminous moment with sunlight filtering through leaves and petals, transforming the everyday sight of blooming daylilies into something almost transcendent. • Fragments of a Day

    Fragments of a Day

    £805

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A striking modernist work that presents a scene fragmented into angular planes and interlocking blocks of colour, evoking figures and structures emerging within an imagined landscape, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1972.

Though abstracted, one can sense the suggestion of human presence and architectural forms –  perhaps a house, a figure, and surrounding terrain reduced to their essential geometric components.

Rendered in a modernist style, the composition is built from flat, faceted shapes that tessellate across the canvas, creating a rhythmic mosaic. The artist has employed a harmonious yet lively palette of muted peach, terracotta, sage green, browns, dusty pink, teal, and pale blues. These tones shift softly across the surface, creating subtle contrasts and spatial tension without harsh division.

The brushstrokes are controlled yet visible, giving texture to each block of colour while maintaining an overall crispness in form. Edges are softly defined, hinting at the hand of the painter beneath the structure of the geometry. The result is a composition that feels both architectural and lyrical – an exploration of form and colour that balances abstraction with a whisper of narrative.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary simple wood frame. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition

  • Hillside Rhythm

    Hillside Rhythm

    £520

    Available

Free shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A vibrant mid-century modernist landscape composition that captures an undulating terrain rendered in bold, sculptural brushstroke, and executed in oil onto canvas.

The scene is abstracted into rhythmic forms where rounded hilltops and faceted slopes are expressed through confident sweeps of the brush, giving the land a sense of movement and tactile energy.

The colour palette is rich – cool sage, olive, and moss greens intersect with muted stone greys and soft sky blues, creating a harmonious balance between earth and air. The sky is painted in a smooth gradient of pale blue, acting as a calm contrast to the dynamic, textured land below. Each stroke is deliberate and expressive, laid down with visible directionality, giving the impression of wind pushing across the hillsides.

Painted with an almost sculptural quality, the brushwork creates volume and light without relying on fine detail – typical of the mid-century Scandinavian modernist approach, where form and rhythm take precedence over realism.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary gilt frame with an inner cream border. The painting itself is in very good vintage condition. The frame shows some age-related marks and has a section missing on the right side.

A very well executed contemporary coastal composition, painted onto canvas by British artist Nicky Knill Jones.

This painting portrays a vast, windswept beach under a dramatic, cloud-streaked sky. The horizon is low and dark, with rolling hills framing the edge of the sea, while the expansive sky dominates the upper half of the canvas in shifting tones of blue and grey.

The broad, gentle brushstrokes and subdued palette evoke a fleeting, introspective mood — capturing the stillness and solitude of a moment suspended in time.
