A soothing mid-century modernist interior still life painting, executed in oil onto canvas.
The painting captures a serene domestic setting with a carefully arranged composition of objects on a wooden table. At the centre, a faceted vase holds a bouquet of three large flowers – set against a muted backdrop with a softly draped curtain. Surrounding the vase, a selection of vessels in earthy and pastel tones add depth to the composition. A simple bowl containing yellow and orange fruits sits on the tabletop, accompanied by additional scattered fruit pieces in shades of green and yellow.
The painting exhibits a modernist approach with a structured composition, simplified geometric forms, and a restrained yet expressive use of perspective. A harmonious palette of muted, earthy tones dominates the scene, adding a soothing quality to the work.
The brushwork is deliberate and controlled, with soft, blended edges and an emphasis on form over fine detail. The surfaces of objects are rendered with a slightly textured yet smooth application of paint, lending a quiet, contemplative atmosphere to the composition. There is a clear attention to the structure of objects, with subtle tonal variations creating a sense of volume and solidity.
This oil on canvas is housed in a robust gilt wood frame with an inner cream border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some scuffing to edges, but this is in keeping with its vintage style.
