A brilliantly executed semi-abstract figurative oil composition, painted in 1964 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

The composition presents three seated figures set against a backdrop filled with warm colours.

Painted in a semi-abstract style, the artist’s deliberate omission of realistic details encourages viewers to focus on brushstrokes and colour. And as we glance across the figures from left to right, their forms become more abstract.

The use of painterly and expressive brushstrokes creates a sense of energy throughout the painting. And the clever use of a limited colour palette of rich brown and orange tones in subtle variations helps to unify the composition and create depth and three-dimensionality.

This oil on canvas is housed in complementary black-painted wood frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has minor scuffs.
