A brilliantly executed miniature semi-abstract portrait in oil, by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

In this composition a lone figure is seated by a wall, with his or her features obscured. The figure’s body perceptible only through carefully applied brushstrokes which hint at its structure. There is a poignant quietness to this picture- its impact almost enhanced by its small size – encouraging us to peer closely and take in all the details.

The painting is housed in a simple but very effective gilt frame, which illuminates the painting and brings out its warm colours. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
