A brilliantly executed semi-abstract city landscape oil composition, painted in 1959 by the established Swedish artist Ivar Morsing (1919-2009), whose works have been exhibited in public collections including the National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kalmar Museum, and Jönköping Museum.

In the foreground, 3 figures are presented strolling through lush greenery, with a backdrop of a cityscape behind them.

Painted in a semi-abstract style, the artist has reduced the composition down to blocks of contrasting colours, and the deliberate omission of realistic details encourages viewers to focus on the overall atmospheric ambiance, as well as on brushstroke and colour.

The artist has used expressive and sweeping strokes of varying lengths, evoking a sense of movement and dynamism within the static setting. The dominant use of rich brown and green shades in various intensities creates a warm and earthy atmosphere, and the contrasting tones help to create depth and three-dimensionality.
