A serene and outstanding mid-century modernist style landscape, executed in oil onto canvas and dated 1953.

Long and narrow in format, the composition features a pathway that stretches from the foreground into the distance, guiding the eye towards a row of quaint houses. The pathway is flanked on one side by a line of trees, whose simplified forms are depicted in muted shades of forest green.

Beyond the houses, a backdrop of distant mountains anchors the composition, rendered in soft hues of grey.

The style of the painting is typically modernist in ethos, as the artist has skillfully deconstructed the scene down to blocks of contrasting colours, to demonstrate a sense of depth and dimension.

The use of contrasting yet subtle muted earthy shades creates a feeling of balance and tranquility, inviting the viewer to imagine a peaceful stroll along the pathway.

Being narrow and running close to a meter in length, the painting’s size would make it the perfect addition above a bed or sofa.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim cream frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some marks and scuffing but this does not detract from overall attractiveness.
