The Platter
SOLD.
A wonderfully executed and well-balanced mid-century still life composition, painted in oil onto canvas.
A neatly arranged plate of fruit including lemons, a pepper, a pear, and an apple punctuates the centre of the composition. The backdrop against which the fruits are displayed is an abstract arrangement of blocks, showcasing an intriguing interplay of contrasting colours and patterns.
To highlight the forms in the composition, thin black outlines have been used. These outlines define the edges of the fruit, plate, and backdrop, distinguishing and enhancing each of their presence within the composition.
Using a rich colour palette and expressive brushstrokes, the artist has masterfully used a colour gradient technique, subtly blending various hues to enhance the three-dimensional qualities of the fruit.
This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner linen window. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
