A bold and very striking mid century modernist still life composition, executed in oil onto board.

A group of objects including 2 jars, a bottle, and an assortment of fruit punctuate the centre of the composition. Positioned against a rich white backdrop that could perhaps resemble a tablecloth, their colours are further enhanced, and the remaining colours in the background beautifully pick up the colours of the objects.

A range of  saturated shades including brown, blue and green have been used, invigorating the work with depth and liveliness. Through the use of very confident and painterly brushstrokes that have been swiftly applied, the artist skilfully layers colours to form a raw textural quality to this painting. Furthermore, the gradient of colour as well as the bold black outlines wonderfully exemplifies each object’s three dimensionality quality.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wooden frame with a inner border that is painted white, which suits the painting very well. There are some light marks to the frame, but both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition overall.
