A brilliantly executed modernist still like composition, painted in oil onto canvas.
In this scene we see a pair of fruit, a pair of white mugs, and a blue sugar pot. The artist has incorporated a loose and porous like effect to the medium by thinning down the oil paint, creating a watercolour like effect. Significant attention has been paid to the application of colour, from blending and layering to looser flicks and dabs. This myriad of application techniques creates a textural effect and allows the different layers to remain visible. There is a softness to the palette – the objects are set against a pale pink background which contrasts beautifully with the greenish blue of the upper edge of the painting.
