  • Apples and Pears

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A charming miniature oil still life of unassuming apples and pears. This compact painting features rich colouring and texture, and is housed in a wonderful wood and gilt vintage effect frame.

Miniature paintings are often overlooked treasures. Their small size means they can fit into an array of small spaces, adding interest to nooks and crannies. They can be displayed on a bookshelf or kitchen shelf, either standing on a mini easel or leant against other objects/books. If added to a group display, these small pieces act as a wonderful contrast to bigger pieces, and can add ‘punctuation’ to the group hang.

This original miniature oil is in excellent condition.

    Size: 18.5 x 23.5 cm (including frame)

  • Pitchers

    Sold

    SOLD

Through its exploration of lines and generating and defining of shapes such as the curve, circles, angles and arabesque, this painting picks up on the style and ideas of the Movement paintings of British St Ives School artist Sir Terry Frost, who explored concepts around creating rhythm, counterpoint, interruption and repetition.

A wonderful visual vocabulary of bright primary colours, shapes, and movement transforms what would normally just be a group of mugs and pitchers, and has given them a life of their own.

The magic in this is that the artist has taken ordinary objects, and has looked at them in a way that has removed all preconceived notions of visual experience in order to open up the possibility of recreating and reimagining that defies reality. There is an openness to serious play with colour and shape. This painting is simple and surprisingly subtle, but very satisfying to look at, and to enjoy.

This lovely oil on board is in excellent vintage condition. The complementary frame as seen in the photos is included with the painting.

  • In Bloom

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A beautiful and serene 20th century still life that displays a glimpse of a well-decorated home setting.

Jasmines are depicted in full bloom and growing out from a copper flower pot that has been placed at a corner of a living room. The artist has skillfully captured the reflection of this pot cast against the flooring, as well as the shadows of the flowers that have been cast on the wall

One is able to get a sense of the style of this home setting – as we see the light floral patterned curtains, and the colourful rug near it.

The artist has used  fine and soft brushstrokes to create a smooth and delicate effect to the work; and the earthy colour palette gives a soothing feel.

The painting is surrounded by a dark wooden frame with an inner gold window which suits it perfectly.

It is in excellent vintage condition.

    Size: 65.5 x 56.5 cm (including frame)

  • Demoiselle

    Sold

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

One of the most elegant pieces in our collection yet, this beautiful oil depicts a collection of intricately painted objects on what is most likely a lady’s dresser. It is painted such that the viewer is herself sitting at this very table, just about to catch herself in the reflection of the mirror.

A lady’s dresser is more than just a place to beautify oneself – it is a private space where she can take a moment to pause, reflect and unwind. Her collection of precious sentimental objects lay neatly before her, reminders of bygone days.

The mirror in the painting captures the reflection of the objects on the table, but stops short at the point where we would see our own reflection – a seemingly simple yet rather effective angle chosen by the artist.

Painted by Britt Bräckis Rosén, the oil painting is housed in a tasteful thin rounded gold frame. It is in excellent vintage condition with only some very minor scuffing to the frame.

    Size: 70 x 43 cm (including frame)

  • Prosper

    SOLD

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A beautiful and well-balanced still life that captured our hearts upon first sight.

Presented atop a table draped with a cloth is a well-decorated pitcher filled with red tulips and pussy willows, surrounded by 7 oranges and a small green bowl.

Very soft and precise brushstrokes have been used to create a delicate and realistic effect to the work, and there is calm fluency from one subject to the next.

The artist has wonderfully managed to capture the creases and folds in the table cloth, and the great play of colours and reflective shadowy effects in the oranges and flowers create a sense of three dimensionality in the work.

There is a strong focus of attention on the objects as its bold colours stand out in contrast to the background painted in beige with light pink undertones.

The painting is in excellent vintage condition. It comes well-presented in a thick gilt frame that has areas of paint loss.

    Size: 73 x 64 cm (including frame)

  • Tulips

    Sold

    SOLD

This captivating still life in oil depicting tulips in a vase features bold colours, strong outlines, and lots of texture. Thick, creamy layers of oil paint have been applied generously by the artist, giving this painting a real tactility. Painted on a long vertical canvas with a very well balanced composition, our eyes are led from top to bottom. At first glace we notice the 6 upright blooms, but then our eyes are drawn downwards toward the one wilting flower, its soft stem forming a curved line that contrasts with the straighter angles of the other tulips and their leaves. The horseshoe reflection on the vase lead us down to the single pear that sits on the table –  the final punctuation in this wonderfully compositioned piece.

This original oil was painted in 1959. It is housed in a deep gilt frame with an inner moulding that is stained green and highlights the painting perfectly. There is a slight widening to the top right joint of the frame, but otherwise the painting and frame are in very good condition.

    Size: 75 x 43 cm (including frame)

A fantastic still life oil painted in the impressionist style. Here the artist has rendered rich and intense colours,  seeking oppositions of blue with orange, red and green, yellow and violet. Also evident is the artist’s use of the impressionist skill of the spontaneous brushstroke, each brush mark visible and distinct. Contrasting colours combined with multi directional strokes convey a sense of light and movement. There is a certain warmth and homeliness to this painting.

The painting is housed in a robust frame, and is in good vintage condition. There are some areas of craquelure (fine cracks in the paint) as seen in the photos, but the paint layer is stable overall. Cracks forming within the paint layer is natural as the paint starts to age. Craquelure is not in itself harmful to the painting, and can add to the ‘quality’ of patina that only age can bring.

A large and expressive modernist still life painting signed by Swedish artist A Nilsson.

The work is well executed with short and swift brushstrokes, and painted with great confidence.

Presenting a tray holding some fruits, glasses and a pitcher, we love the cool blue undertones in the work, and how the artist has highlighted the reflections and shadowy effects of the objects in blue as well, imbuing the work with so much character.

This painting is in excellent vintage condition.

It comes with a unique wood frame laid weaving and  a linen lining. Do note that the weaving on the frame has some fraying and losses

This gorgeous array of freshly picked calendulas and chrysanthemums will most definitely add a touch of elegance to any interior space. An excellent mid 20th century still life that is so vibrant. Placed atop a table is a pot of white flowers in full bloom surrounded by other objects, and a curtain in a striking blue is hanging from behind.

Fast and swift brushstrokes dominate the painting, as its rendered in an impressionist style; and the colour palette of the work bears such elegance with its blues and whites and the silver of the frame.

This painting on board is in excellent vintage condition.

It comes with a complementary silver painted distressed frame, but do note that the board is slightly loose within the frame.

  • Tea Time

    Sold

Free Shipping to UK, Europe and Singapore.

A simply calm and charming still life.

Laid out on a tabletop is a yellow earthen clay water jug, a copper kettle, a glass water bottle, 3 fruits, a slice of bread, and a teacup filled with tea and placed on a saucer.

Fine and detailed brushstrokes have been used to paint the objects so meticulously; and despite being laid out so smoothly on the canvas, one is still able to get a sense of the roundness and three dimensionality of the objects.

The objects are placed against a monochrome grey background that further enhances their colours, allowing it to stand out more.

The painting is housed in a robust frame, and is in excellent vintage condition. There are scattered areas of paint loss to the edges of the frame, but the uniformity of the losses have made us think this could be intentional, giving the frame that vintage ‘distressed’ effect.

    Size: 52 x 60 cm (including frame)

  • Carmine

    Sold

A richly coloured, striking oil painting of red blooms (possibly Lilies or Amaryllis – let us know if you know which!) in a glass vase. The combination of ultramarine blue of the fabric, the carmine red of the flowers and the emerald green of the stems and leaves create a striking picture. Areas of impasto (where the thick paint stands proud on the surface) add wonderful texture to this painting.

The painting is housed in a lovely nude wood frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

An expressive still life depicting 2 pears, a wooden spatula, and a Delft blue plate laid out on a tabletop.

The artist has skilfully captured the three-dimensionality of the objects through the use of bold and distinct brushstrokes using the impasto technique.

The overflowing use of colours as well as texture imbues this little painting with so much character and vigour – that it makes the objects come to live, and seem as if they are having a blast at their own little party together.

The painting is housed in a new box frame that is painted white.

Rich creaming colouring, smooth yet confident brushwork, and a well balanced composition all come together in this visual delight. The way in which the artist has applied the coloured oil paints ignite all of our senses, beyond just the visual. We can imagine taking a bite into the fruit, it’s flesh juicy and sweet. The saturated orange and blue of the flowers in the vase tempt us to smell its fragrant aroma, and the terracotta water jug invites us to wrap our hands around it and feel its cool dry surface.

There’s a freshness and light to this still life that is akin to the atmosphere of a crisp early spring morning. This painting goes beyond a depiction of a group of objects, and instead delights us with an unexpected sensory experience.

Painted by Swedish artist Elsa Hansson Winnberg (1913-1987), it is housed in a very complementary gilt frame with hints of red, and is in excellent vintage condition.

A beautiful and serene still life that captured our hearts upon first sight.

Presented atop a mahogany wooden table is an arrangement of flowers in a vase, a sugar pot, and and 2 European vintage ceramic figurines of a boy and girl with animals around them.

What is so captivating about this work is that it has elements of both East and West – the artist has painted a dutch Delft blue and white chinoiserie porcelain vase that has some yellow overtones that further enhances its beauty.

The objects are set against a beautifully painted backdrop that picks up the colours of the flowers and the ornaments around it.

Very fine and soft brushstrokes have been used to create a smooth and delicate effect to the work, and there is great fluency from one subject to the next.

The artist has also skillfully captured the reflections of the objects cast against the wood grains of the table top.

Housed in its original frame, this is one of our larger artworks, and measures 88 x 69cm including the frame.

A wonderful visual vocabulary of bright primary colours, shapes, and movement transforms what would normally just be a pair of espresso cups and a percolator, and has given them a life of their own.

Why imitate reality when you can imagine a new one?

Here the most powerful resources of the artist – creativity, imagination and reinvention – have been harnessed. Such a delicate combination has been achieved: the celebration of the common things of everyday life without imitation. Instead, we have ‘visual music’, composed using the formal artistic elements of pattern, harmony, colour, and rhythm.

We might have in front of us a vase of flowers, a pair of pears, a couple of variegated pebbles and a jug of cherries. But there is more than meets the eye. We have abstract planes of strong colour, intensified by chromatic contrasts which cause each saturated hue to reverberate in the eye. Clear, clean, decorative shapes, schematically flattened into pure geometries: disc and circle, star, scallop-edged roundel, arch and curve, stripes and lines, the intensity of emerald green and ultramarine against pastels and white.

This ‘no depth’ style might seem simple to achieve, but when examined further, the combination of different elements in fact take great skill. The objects have been deliberately flattened to bring them parallel to the picture surface, deployed on a table top that has been similarly brought up and forward by 90 degrees to align them with the canvas plane. These familiar objects acquire a new life of their own within the composed world of the painting, bounded by the rectangular surface itself and their own pictorial structure of shape and colour.

Pebbles, pears, cherries and flowers, yes. But more a world of imagination than actual fact.

This meticulous and vivacious oil on board is in excellent vintage condition. The white complementary frame as seen in the photos is included with the painting.

In the foreground of this enchanting artwork, we see 2 red poppies in a vase, situated around a jug, an onion and 3 stones. What is captivating is the tribal patterns on the objects, and the striking colour palette comprising of black, white and purple being used.

With these objects dominating the artwork, what can be quite missable to the eye is the unique location where this scene is taking place – the desert! In the background, the sun is glowing in the clear blue sky, watching over the vast land and sand dunes beneath it.

Free shipping to Europe, UK and Singapore.

Imagine a friend has brought you a bunch of flowers and you’ve put them in a jug displayed on your dining room table. You’re having breakfast at your table the next morning, admiring the flowers. You observe the patterns, colours, edges and lines of the little flowers. You begin to notice the natural rhythm within this visual picture – the different heights and shapes of the flowers and leaves and their stems form a sweet harmonious composition.

It is this very composition that the artist of this painting has explored. The artist has observed the formal elements of the jug of flowers, i.e. shape, line, form and colour, and has enhanced them by deliberately flattening and bringing them parallel to the picture surface, deployed on a table top that has been similarly brought up and forward by 90 degrees to align them with the canvas plane.

Here we have art that accepts life’s visual and tactile pleasures, but represents them using the resources of the painter – colour and form, visual rhythm and rhyme.
