A simple yet very captivating modernist style still life composition, executed in oil onto board.

The setting of the painting hints at a beautiful white balcony, overlooking a vast blue ocean. In the foreground, some oranges rest in a bowl as well as on the white grounds of the balcony floor.

The balcony’s white surface accentuates the vivid orange tones of the fruits,  allowing them to command our attention.

Upon first glance, this work may be recognised for its simplicity. However as we take time to explore the painting further, we notice that the artist has thoughtfully chosen to eliminate non-essentials – focusing our attention on the beautiful essence of colour may come across as limited but inherently powerful enough to give rise to forms, as well as evoke a soothing and minimalist quality to the work.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary slim gilt frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
