A delightful mid 20th century still life composition, executed in oil onto canvas.

The composition presents an interior setting, where a brown jug, red peppers, onions and a butter knife are laid on a wooden board, and placed in front of a window that overlooks a balcony balustrade.

Distinct and rhythmic multi-directional brushstrokes fill the canvas, adding an expressive feel but also highlighting the objects’ three-dimensional qualities. A selection of contrasting rich and lively muted earthy colours including shades of orange, green and yellow have been used, deeply complementing one another.

This oil on canvas is housed in a linen lined frame with an inner gilt window. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
