Peaches
SOLD.
An outstanding modernist still life composition, painted in oil onto board and dated 1950.
This striking still life painting presents six peaches neatly arranged in pairs in a diagonal fashion.
Containing elements of geometric abstraction as well as cubism, the painting is an experiment of geometric shapes and angled lines as the artist has skilfully reduced the composition down to these 2 key elements.
Through the use of contrasting muted lively shades, a mix of circles, triangles and squares overlap one another to form this aesthetically striking and well-balanced painting.
This oil on board is housed in a complementary gilt frame with an inner white border. The frame has some age marks, but this is in keeping with the overall style. Overall, the painting and frame are both in very good vintage condition.
