A small and engaging animal composition, painted in a naïve style in oil onto panel, by British artist Matt Rix.

This painting portrays a large pink pig standing on a patch of earth, with a soft rolling green landscape and a muted sky with a few wispy white clouds in the background. The pig is depicted in a folk-art style, characterized by its simplified, rounded form, gentle expression, and minimal yet expressive details.

The pig’s plump body is painted in warm peachy-pink tones, with subtle shading that adds depth and texture to its form. It has small, pointy ears, a curled tail, and short, sturdy legs with dainty hooves. The facial features are minimal but effective, with a tiny black eye, a snout with small nostrils, and a calm, content expression.

The background is soft and understated, with earthy tones that complement the pig without distracting from it. The grass and sky are painted with a slightly weathered texture, giving the painting a rustic, timeless feel.

The artwork is framed in a rustic black wooden frame. Both painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.
