A dynamic and beautifully textured mid-century painting of an atmospheric seascape, executed in oil onto canvas.

Small yet impactful in its composition, the canvas is dominated by a vast expanse of waves in an ocean under a grey sky. The overall colour palette is subdued, featuring shades of white and various hues of grey,  lavender purple and green that have a soothing quality.

Containing elements of impressionism and abstraction, the artist has swiftly applied loose and expressive brushstrokes to capture the swirling, frothy waves during this fleeting atmospheric condition. Each stroke seems to ripple and dance across the canvas, creating a sense of movement within the water.

Using the impasto technique, the thick and creamy texture of the brushwork gives the waves a tactile as well as aesthetically captivating presence.

This oil on canvas is housed in a complementary slim silver frame. Both painting and frame are in very good vintage condition.
