Veils of Grey

A  large mid-century abstract painting that explores an interplay of muted tones and layered forms, creating a composition that feels both architectural and atmospheric, executed in oil onto canvas.

The subject matter is non-representational, allowing the viewer to interpret shifting planes and subtle depths that suggest shadowed interiors or blurred landscapes without resolving into a fixed image.

Rendered in a restrained palette of whites, greys, silvers, and soft taupe, with occasional accents of darker brown and hints of blue, the work captures a cool, contemplative mood.

The brushstrokes are loose yet deliberate – some areas built up with dense, textured applications, while others are feathered, thinned, or softly blended to create a sense of translucency and motion. The overall effect is one of quiet dynamism, as if forms are emerging and dissolving within a luminous fog.

This oil on canvas is presented in a complementary gilt frame. The painting is in excellent vintage condition. The frame has some minor scuffing but this does not detract from its overall attractiveness.
