The Easel

A wonderfully executed and expressive modernist composition of an artist’s studio, painted in oil and dated 1938.

The left side of the painting features an open window, allowing sunlight to pour into the room. The light rays fill the space, creating a captivating play of light and shadow. Standing prominently in the center of the painting is a tall easel supporting a blank canvas. The canvas, untouched by any brushstrokes, invites viewers to ponder the artistic journey about to unfold. To the right, a glimpse of a desk can be seen, hinting at the artist’s working environment.

The use of rich colours combined with painterly brushstrokes creates an uplifting quality to the piece.

This oil on canvas laid onto board is unframed. There is some wear to the outer corners, but this would be hidden by a frame. Overall the painting is in very good vintage condition. The painting can be displayed as is, leaning against a shelf or propped up on an easel. It would also look lovely if housed in a simple frame.
