An expressive picturesque landscape painting, executed in oil onto board and dated 1953.

The composition presents a scenic view of a river streaming through a landscape setting, with mountains in the background and a house nestled within the landscape in the foreground of the painting.

With its rich colour palette and energetic brushstrokes, this painting is reminiscent of modernist artist Cezanne, especially in the way that it explores the expressive qualities of brushwork and colour.

Bold earthy tones of brown, blue, and green fill the surface, imbuing the painting with an uplifting feel and warmth.

The artist has outlined the respective forms with thick darker lines that further accentuate their three-dimensionality.  Short, urgent and bold brushstrokes have been executed in an invigorating and confident manner, adding a wonderful energetic as well as textural quality to the painting.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner gilt window. Both the painting and frame are in excellent vintage condition.
